      Re: Windows 8.1 (blue)

Random freezes especially where win8 is running maintenance are usually due to superfetch, turning this off stops these freezes, my Dell XPS18 had been running fine for a while then out of the blue started to freeze, turning superfetch off fixed this with zero negative impact on system performance, I also had this issue with my desktop at the launch of win8 so I knew where to look

Checked auto correct and highlight mis-spelt words and both are still set as on, so I don't know why it is not actually working.

      I shall look into 'superfetch'

      Thanks...

      Re: Windows 8.1 (blue)

Did you try turning auto correct etc on and off, there are some programs like openoffice and the old safari browser that have known to cause problems in the past and switch the state of these on/off.

A good overview in Windows8 to diagnose ongoing or adhoc issues is to use the Reliability Monitor, rather than troll through the event viewer. It might show up something and easy to use and view.

      Re: Windows 8.1 (blue)

      Problem solved!

It seems I had conflicting versions of microsft visual studio installed.

No idea how that happened. Something must have installed it when I wasn't looking!

It will take time to see if the freezes are a thing of the past, but at least I am not getting an error message when trying to run a program.
