Are both devices running Win 7? If so open the Network and Sharing Centre, select the 3rd item down, 'Choose Homegroup and sharing options'. On the next pane choose all the items you want to share and click 'Save changes'. On the same pane click 'View or print the Homegroup password'. You can change the password to one of your own choosing. When you have done that go to the second machine and open the Network and Sharing Centre on it and click join Homegroup. That is about all there is to it. Make sure the 2nd machine is set to share everything you want by clicking 'Choose Homegroup and Sharing options' and ticking as necessary.

You can only run a Homegroup on Win 7(or Win 8)
