      VGA into HDMI

Hi guys, I really want to buy a passive 3d monitor for my laptop.

The only problem is that my laptop only has a VGA output and not HDMI, and I was hoping to watch HD quality 3d movies on the monitor!

Since people on here seem to be pretty clued up about tech- I was just wondering whether there's anyway to get my VGA signal from the laptop and convert it into HDMI to put into my monitor? I know that one is analogue and the other is digital and so it's not that easy, but I've heard people saying it can be done?

      Thanks for any help!

      Re: VGA into HDMI

I would seriously question the capabilities of the Laptop before trying this.

My old Desktop struggles to reproduce full 1080i, let alone 1080p or 3D video content.

If the specs of your Laptop are up to it, you may wish to consider a USB to HDMI adaptor that is capable of working a 3D monitor/TV.

      Re: VGA into HDMI

You can do it, but the components you require are expensive. You will need something like this -
      Octava HDCMP31-UK

Possibly there are cheaper options. You might be better upgrading your laptop to one with an HDMI port.

      Re: VGA into HDMI

thanks for the replies- and oh I didn't realise it would be so expensive, was hoping for a cheaper solution

it's really annoying because my laptop is only 2 years old and I was disappointed that it didn't have a HDMI output when I was thinking of buying it, but went for it anyway because it had everything else I needed
