Windows Live Mail is very similar to Outlook Express.
Whilst the look & feel are different, many of the same rules work. You can import the account details from Outlook Express. You could even import the message folders it you wish.
It is also free.

Re: What isp to replace oe?
As Scubbie says, WLM is the direct replacement for OE, but if you want to try something different, Thunderbird is excellent and will do everything OE did and more.

Re: What isp to replace oe?
I tried to use skymail? - my troubles started with my emails when I upgraded to windows 7 I lost my internet Outlook Express. I have tried to install Windows Live Mail but could not get it to work - more because of my stupidity in understanding written instructions. And as for Thunderbird this program may be easy for most folks to install but no for an old duffer like me. I deleted the two programs from my computer. Thanks Scubbie, Isitme and Paul Sky all I want is access to email - any email which gives me PoP/SMTP and is easy to set up for an old fart like me.

Re: What isp to replace oe?
Thats what I have used for the past 4 years - sky email.
Its all hosted online by google iirc and surprisingly when I left Sky it has remained active. Apparently its an account for life, not like them to give something for nothing but I'm not complaining.
It may not be the be all and end all of email systems but it does what I need, receives and sends emails, and I dont need to worry about backing anything up on the odd occasion that I reformat.

Re: What isp to replace oe?
Hi DG8,
Install Thunderbird and follow these steps:
The first screen you will be greeted with once you install thunderbird and launch it will be this:
Follow the instructions on the pictures.

Once you click continue you will see the following screen.

Once you click edit you will see the following screen

Once you click manual setup you will see this screen

Once you click ok you should connect to the server and it should start retrieving your email. You might have click 'get email' on your screen to initiate the process.

Re: What isp to replace oe?
I think I have managed to follow your instruction and as far as I know it is working, I used Mozilla Thunderbird to send a test message to myself using my email address and it appeared in the inbox and opened okay.
I could not access the first three diagrams mail account setup but filled in the account settings as shown - do not know how it is now working but thank you very much for your help - I'm well pleased with you assistance. Blessing to you and your family. You can't shake hands with a clenched fist.
