Thumbs up Get Your PC Temp’s Down!!

When’s the last time you gave your PC a clean in side? Well built my PC about a year ago, so decided to gave it a spring clean bought a Air Duster 400ML about £7.00(can of compressed air, make sure it’s suitable for PCB’S-PRINTED CIRCUT BROADS) and a 2” paint brush as a precaution tapped the metal shroud so as not to cause any short circuit’s. If you have not got an Earth Strap for working with electronics all I ever used was an electrical extension plug it in leaving socket switched off, plug in PC power lead PC is now earthed, PC power switch off(press power button to discharge motherboard) so I can work at table height. On opening my case the first thing l noticed was the CPU Cooler was well choked with dust and so was the rear fan, on taking the front of my case off the front fan filter was again choked with dust . Took the fan off my CPU Cooler and gave both of them a good brush down and proceeded to take front and rear fan off brushed them down. Then gave the Motherboard, Graphics Card and the inside of my case again a good brush down, which makes it a lot easier to blow off the dust with the Air Duster. After blasting everything with air, the inside of my case looked new, proceeded to reassemble my PC all told about an hours work.
My PC is in the living room which faces south and gets the sun most of the day, with this hot weather my PC Temps idle average were CPU – 44c, Graphics Card-72c, Hard drive-30c, after cleaning PC Temps average were down CPU-39c, Graphics Card-69c, Hard drive-27c. So as not to forget I’ve set my PC calendar to remind me in 6 months with a note to clean PC job done.

Re: Get Your PC Temp’s Down!!

Having a dog and a cat, means that I have to do mine every couple of months. Its amazing how much dirt can be dragged into your PC

Thanks for the tips

Yes, it's amazing how much dust and even pet hair gets in there!

I am thinking of growing mushrooms in my case!

Re: Get Your PC Temp’s Down!!

I have that many fans on, in my pc I have no hair down one side of my right leg. its sucked them clean off!!!!
But yes, having two cats and general house dust can soon clog up a pc pretty fast.
It is a regular maintenance job here with 4 pc on the go.
Rather than blow dust and pay 7 quid for a tin of air, I use an old hoover that has a very narrow nozzle and plenty suction. Earthed of course.

Re: Get Your PC Temp’s Down!!

And there was me thinking this was about how to mod a freezer to store your computer in...

Can tell the dust on mine as it has a front grill with fans to pull in extra cooling, when they look dusty its time to clean...

Re: Get Your PC Temp’s Down!!

You could take your PC to work Keir, they would soon lose the dust and dirt, as well as all the confidential data.
