Re: EC starts legal action on Phorm

The EU seems to be saying Phorm "intercepted" user data without clear consent and the UK need to look again at its online privacy laws. They also say the EU have been following the Phorm case for some time and have concluded that there are problems in the way the UK has implemented parts of the EU rules on the confidentiality of communications.

The EU wants the UK to ensure there were procedures in place to ensure "clear consent from the user that his or her private data is being used".

That seems clear enough for the people who gave Government approval for Phorm - without such consent be sought or given..

considering that Amazon has spent an awful lot of money developing target advertising for their customers which works very well I can see that they would not let somebody else come in and do a fairly half baked job on their site.

What is the Phorm share price now?, got to be in the toilet what with this latest news from the EU.

I can't wait for Phorm to fail. Personally I am going to get so drunk. I despise them so much - any ISP that deals with Phorm would lose my business for life.

I agree with you NewsreadeR. I was with BT when they ran a trial of this a few years ago and I would be pretty annoyed if it turned out that unbeknown to me I was part of this trial, infact I would be livid.
