I gave up on AVG some months ago and have been using Avast, with no problems. There is a new version of Avira available which is receiving good reviews. I am considering giving it a try on one of my PCs It is available here -
      http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiV...-10322935.html

The only complaint seems to be the nagging to upgrade to the paid version, which was one of the things that put me off AVG.

Uninstall AVG before you install another AV program or it can cause real problems. Defender runs quite happily beside any AV, including Avira.

Remember to unplug from the internet when you uninstall your AV. Plug back in as soon as you have installed the new one to allow it to update.

ISITME-just to let you know,i put avira on and when i ran a full scan it picked up a recognition of DR/FRAUD SPYWARE,and ADSPY/adspy.gen.it also found 4 viruses or unwanted programs.im not sure wot all this means exactly but avg never picked them up.avira seems very user friendly and is twice as fast scanning as AVG was

Did it remove the threats? Remember if you do find virus infections you should turn off System Restore, run the application to remove them, then turn System Restore on again. If you don't the virus could be hiding in a restore point.

Oi Andy.Avast is the one mate.If you go to the reviews and read the one towards the end that's entitled Avira v Avast you'll see why.

As I said in another post when you're doing do a scan, or generally browsing, if Avast detects a virus you should hear the noise it makes.Apart from a crowd singing "what the 'uckin 'ell is that?", it makes a right old din.And I mean proper din.

Plus when it updates automatically, you get some yankee doodle voice announcing that 'virus database has been updated'. And what do you know, just as I'm writing this message it's just updated again.

All singing, all dancing and numero uno for me.
