Re: Windows xp or windows vista
I'd go for Vista if I had a godly PC or was planning on buying any of the new games.
Otherwise I'd go with XP.
Windows 7 looks interesting though, so if I will most likley wait on my next PC for the release of that.

Yes it is. The Kernel is pretty much the same as that in Vista.
Although Windows 7 has the improvements I have been hoping for such as better start times, more streamlined and just generally tweaked really.

Re: Windows xp or windows vista
A timely question, given that I have been trying to fix my neighbour's Sony Laptop with Vista and Intel wireless.
The thing keeps failing to connect to the router until I run Repair Connection.
Surprisingly this worked on Vista (I've never seen it work on XP) but the same problem returns when you restart the machine later. The internet will only work with an ethernet cable connecting computer and router.
Struggling because I am not familiar with Vista's networking stuff -- and it all seems very integrated -- no obvious means of checking that the inbuilt wireless adapter is working as per XP or Netgear's own wireless utilities.
Though Device Manager says wireless adapter is working, Discover Networks won't open so I can't see if it's detecting any wireless networks. .
Confirms my impression that Vista's easy to set up and fine while it's working but not so easy to troubleshoot at a hardware level.
