Arrival of HMS Prince of Wales

Not that you would have known from the huge press coverage (tumbleweed jibe), but HMS Prince of Wales arrived for the first time in Portsmouth Harbour for the first time yesterday.

I was down there with a couple of cameras and my phone. When I've got a little time, I'll have a look at the footage to see if I'm happy enough to put something together and post it.

In the meantime, here is a photo of her, a few moments before she passed the Round Tower...

p.s. I did stream a live video to a group on FB too

Well, I finally got a chance to edit the video footage that I shot of the arrival of HMS Prince of Wales. I trust that you'll like it...

Great film. Perhaps the soundtrack on the speeded-up sections could be enhanced by the Benny Hill signature tune.

In the olden days, ships had a wooden figurehead on the bows. I see that the modern navy has replaced this with the ship's chaplain in full regalia.

pmsl - Primarily I recorded the video for a momento of the day. There are a few local people who might not have liked me putting that music in the video.

Admittedly the music isn't great and the action, in general, is *bleep* slow. I've reduced the footage somewhat from the amount of time it took to record but also wanted to show just how large she is and allow people to spot their loved ones on board.

Perhaps there was some debate whether or not to nail him to the cross

p.s. It has been pointed out elsewhere that it was 78 years to the day when the previous HMS Prince of Wales was sunk. Today the new HMS Prince of Wales was commissioned into the Royal Navy.
