Remember when radio used to be good?

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I grew up listening to 95.8 Capital FM during the Tarrant/Pat Sharp years and this for me is simply joyous nostalgia:

It also reminds me why radio these days is so dull........or am I just getting old?

If you are nostalgic about Capital FM you can't be that old. Now if you had said Radio Luxenbourg 208, then you are old. If you can remember Dick Barton, Special Agent or Valentine Dyall, the Man in Black and Appointment with Fear, then you are getting on a bit.

Yes those were the days. 208 Yes.
Then Radio Caroline sailed in one day and 199 became the magic number.

Yes popular music without all those stupid jingles, but what was that sound that indicated you had indeed found 208 metres on the dial? Was it a chime or a gong?

Even BBC drama productions - in 1953 David Kosoff played the character Lemuel "Lemmy" Barnet in the first British sci-fi radio series Journey into Space.

Of course radio was cheap. All the multi million special effects in something like 'Gravity' were produced for 0.00 in the listeners mind.

Was on BBC TV News this morning that it is 50 years ago today that Radio Caroline started.
From next Monday RC is to broadcast from a boat in Liverpool think it is for a month to remember this change to the way music broadcast, anyone got any details please?
