Do you manually moderate all new accounts these days, especially if you are getting a lot of spammers signing up. And do you ban certain addresses such as .as the free one which is what they usually use.

Nope. Not at the moment.

We tend to ban by IP block. However most of the spam is caught, by our Spam Database that we subscribe to. If it does not catch it automatically and a member alerts us, the spam post is then submitted to the Spam Database, ready for the next time.

All new members' first two posts are scanned against this Database. If spam like tendencies, a moderator / admin then has to authorise the offending posts, to make sure they are not spam. Tends to work most of the time, although not 100% accurate.

I work with this system as well and it is usually pretty accurate and it is very rare in my experience that something slips through the net. It does usually catch out a lot of legitimate posts but that is to be excepted but on the whole it is very unusual if something does get through.

If its of any use I can supply you with updated monthly IP data lists that show IP blocks and country of allocation?

That would be great Simon, if you could email it to me aswell we have a problem with the Chinese on one of our other sites and banning by country ip would be ideal
