Strange phone call last night

I received a rather strange phone call last night from a company stating my Sky Digital Box warranty was due to run out any day. Having had the box for over 5 years I knew there was no warranty on the box and stated this, the guy hung up without as much as saying thank you or goodbye.

I'm sure he said the company name was Digital Media Services I didn't quite catch him as he was so fast, the number is 01515 475250 which is a Merseyside area code.

Anyone else had a similar call or heard of these guys?

Could this be a new scam, tricking Sky owners into purchasing a warranty?

Re: Strange phone call last night

There were a some posts a week or so ago, where people had been phoned by a company saying they were sky, or were representing sky, or similar and offering insurance or warranties for their equipment. Can't seem to find it now though.

I think those calls had originated from the Merseyside area too. People were wondering how this company got their contact information unless it was with sky's pernission.

All seems very suspicious

Re: Strange phone call last night

Today I've received (twice) this letter regarding Sky system warranty, same company, I'm unsure?

However the very nature of the letter is deceiving and thus I have forwarded a copy to Trading Standards for them to mull over.

I shall also be writing to Sky to ask them for their view on the matter as they have most likely sold on Sky customer details.

Re: Strange phone call last night

Keep us up to date Simon because if Sky have sold our details on then that is not on. But I suppose if this was the case they will probably point out that there is some small clause in our contracts that allow them to do this.

Have a read of this

Comments on: Phone Spam from Satellite Direct UK

from that page

i googled to see of the address has been mentioned anywhere.

top result is a page from “the Information Commissioner’s Office” listing “Bogus agencies“, some of which have the same address:
Data Protection Agency Registration Services Ltd (Richard Webb/John Sullivan/Paul Marrow)

Re: Strange phone call last night

Actually thinking about this again it could just be a case of this company (whoever they are) just sending out these letters at random not knowing if you are with Sky or not.
