it just creates more lagg, regardless if you think its 'only 20ms extra'. if your a good player you can easily feel the difference between 20ms and 50ms. i believe it just slows the whole experience down.

play css or BF2142 at 20ms and then play at 50ms and then come back and tell me it does'nt make a difference. I know the numbers may seem small but when you play it, you notice it!

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

I was getting pings of 20ms and below on Cable whilst playing BF2142..
Now i can no longer play competitively with the pings im getting on Sky of at best 70ms usually 85...
Really gets me down this....as i was playing for a clan.....
My upload is 700 which i thought would be ok..seems not....
and with no other ISP that can offer me a better connection its ce la vie...
Anyone who plays online games such as CS and UT BF2/2142 cannot function to any decent standard with a ping above 50....

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

I've been on to sky about my pings and have sent them results of TRACERT and PING to different servers (I don't ping less than 80 to ANYTHING). All they have come back with is:

"I can confirm that your tracert results are within acceptable limits".

I'm not going to cancel my NTL cable broadband. I'll just keep Sky Base package as a backup (it's free so why not!).

i know! how is 80 ping acceptable! 15-30 is acceptable so why say that 80 is acceptable! isnt the customer always right!?

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

like today i was playing BF2142 and was averaging pings of about 55ms and it was quite bad. every four steps forwards the player would jump one step back. it was very un-enjoyable. i have to nearly always disconnect from servers and find another one that can get me around 30-35ms, and there are'nt many that can with sky max!

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

I too am a counterstrike player. What i have found is your Sky ping will be about 20 higher than BT and theres diddly squat you can do to close the gap. However i don't think it makes much difference if you are on a ping of 50 versus a player with 30. When it hits around the 90 mark i see a difference.

If you want a rock solid and low ping then you need BT, however i am happy to take a hit for 20 a month less..

      Hi Zub

I think you are suffering from screen lag - my ping is the same as yours and I do not see what you are saying on mine. I can play quite happily.
