No problem on my connect service playing on BF2 servers. For a uk one I typically get a ping that ranges from 16ms to 19ms

      Heres my jolt.co.uk results:

for gaming i would NOT recommend SKy Max. lowest pings you are likely to get is around 35ms but average is around 45ms. way to high to the sub 20s i use to have with my old 2meg connection.,..... ahhh i miss those days

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

Please could some other people try pinging 62.75.202.33 (a German game server I use) from their Sky BB? I used to get a ping of about 30 on my NTL cable before. Now I get:

      PING 62.75.202.33 (62.75.202.33): 56 data bytes
      64 bytes from 62.75.202.33: icmp_seq=0 ttl=56 time=85.0 ms
      64 bytes from 62.75.202.33: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=80.0 ms
      64 bytes from 62.75.202.33: icmp_seq=2 ttl=56 time=85.0 ms
      64 bytes from 62.75.202.33: icmp_seq=3 ttl=56 time=85.0 ms

      --- 62.75.202.33 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
      round-trip min/avg/max = 80.0/83.7/85.0 ms
I'm on the Hertford exchange - is there anyone else out there near me?

It's ironic. I'm not getting any of the drop-out problems often reported on here - my connection seems stable and steady. It's just this annoying latency!

i'm at the upton park exchange. Not very good pings IMO

This is what i get while pinging Jolt.co.uk:

      Again not very good

i'm seriously considering moving over to the connect package now as they've capped me at 8meg anyway.

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

Thanks for that guys. Surely there is something wrong with a ping of 85. I get 75 to jolt. I'll contact tech support.

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

yes that looks suspiciously high! what speeds are you getting at the moment?? maybe you should consider the connect package? or if your connection seems stable enough try asking them to move onto fast path instead of interleave, but i dont know if they still allow this.

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

Thanks - I'll see if they will try that for me. I just got the base package to try out (haven't cancelled my NTL cable yet ) I get about 1.75Mb/s download which seems right.

I planned to go onto Max when I was sure everything was OK, cancel NTL and save 25 per month but with my attenuation (50db) I believe I can only get 4Mb/s anyway so the mid package will do. Trouble is I've been spoilt for too long enjoying 10Mb/s download speeds

Re: pings on sky broadband, high or low

trust me max will have worse pings than connect package (mid). Connect network is on Fast Path wereas Max is on Interleave. The lowest pings i see in BF2142 is about 33ms and it really sucks because the average i get is about 45ms. I'd go with the connect package if i was you. Unless you download a LOT.
