      Booster for SAGEMCOM f@st 2504n

Hi guys. Just joined the forum after being a spy for the last couple of weeks. So I thought I'd make my first post a good one.

Here's the issue. I have the above router and use it for all wireless connections in the house with no problems (that is two laptops mac 2 iPads and an iPhone) all of these can be on wirelessly with no issues at all.

However I run an Xbox in an upstairs room wirelessly which when
I first moved over to sky worked fine however I now have a problem where I will only get a limited service on XBL and very often can not get online at all.

I have followed all the suggestions on here about port opening etc and even spoken with sky about changing gamer profile. All to no avail.

So my question is has anyone else had this issue that has been fixed an if so what did u do (other than hard wire it)

      And
Does anyone know what router booster would be compatible with my router (detailed in title of thread) as sky suggested this as an option.

      Many thanks in advance

In ur case a powerline adapters / homeplugs might be your best bet.

Here's some ideas although u may get the cheaper elsewhere.

      Thanks for the reply

I had considered them before but had heard they are not a lot of good.

Is there not a booster that is compatible with this router?

I haven't tried boosters in years so others may have better input about them.

I've had both the solwise gigabit and the devolo and never had an issue.

Stay away from the belkins tho

Homeplugs are better than wireless and in most cases they are plug 'n play. However in your case they may not be the answer. Before splashing out, you should move your Xbox closer to the router and connect it with an ethernet cable. If it works OK, good, go ahead and buy the Homeplugs. For the best performance, get ones rated at at least 200mbps(100up/100down). If the problem persists you will have to look again for the solution.

      Thanks

This is what I did on Tuesday night. I then tried it wireless next to the router and it worked fine. So it is a distance issue which shouldn't happen. Despite being put on a gamer profile it hasn't improved.
This solution if works will be perfect but I could just imagine that they won't be plug and play with sky when u take into account that they won't allow u to use ur own router and if u do it isn't easy to get all the details u need in order for it to work.

The fact that you are using a Sky router has nothing to do with it. It is just like plugging any other device in. Plug one in, connect it to the router, plug the other in and connect it to your Xbox and that is it. Many have a security device which involves pressing 2 buttons, but that is about all. They do not work well on trailing extensions and should be plugged straight into the power socket, for this reason the type with power pass through are the most useful.
