      Sky + mw3

      Hello people.
I have read some of the threads and still can't figure out what i'm doing wrong.
I have just gone to sky and now am NAT type strict.
Have phoned sky and was told how to change the router settings and how to change the settings on the ps3. But when i change the settings on the PS3 IT DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO SAVE THEM. what am i doing wrong. It is truely driving me mad. When I changed to sky I did so on the promise of a better broadband connection but it is much worse.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP a man going mad.
      Sean

      Re: Sky + mw3

The way I got my NAT type from strict to open was by putting my PS3 into the sky routers DMZ.
here's a link to the instructions. It's pretty straight forward to follow but if you have any questions, just post back.

Are you sure, my Xbox has open nat and it's not in DMZ, just using UPnP, also my ps3 reports a type 2 NAT again using UPnP, although I don't play online games on my PS3 apart from DCUO

For some reason unknown to me UPnP doesn't always open the ports on ps3 to allow a open nat type. Then you play again another day and everything is OK. Have also been told that it does happen on the Xbox also, but some people never experience this problem. I've never found a proper answer to this, so now my ps3 is in my routers Dmz and I've never had any bother since.

On the original netgear router there was a problem with UPnP so I wrote a guide on how to open the ports years ago and have always manually opened the ports since.

But since going over to SBUF using the sagem I didn't bothered opening the ports and let UPnP handle it.

I don't like putting things in the DMZ as its outside the firewall. Personal preference.

To be fair, I'd rather my ps3 worked as it should with no problems. Without the need for dmz or portforwarding. I'm OK with routers and setups, but not an expert by no means. Dmz was the easy way to solve the problem. As its mentioned in game manuals, I don't think think there's a problem putting your ps3 or Xbox in a dmz. Interesting that you say with SBUF, there's been no need for any changes and it works straight away. I get mine next Friday so will see if it works out of the box.

      Re: Sky + mw3

From experience, UPnP works most of the time but it differs with certain devices and i found when the router is up for long periods this can cause problems with crashing and a simple reboot fixes it most of the time. whereas DMZ is quite reliable and a breath of fresh air how it just clears the way for any data in and out. although DMZ can be dangerous enabled on a computer running average firewall as we know. but a console you shouldn't worry unless you get flooded by another user who likes to cheat shall we say lol and then you require icmp blocking on your router if you have that option.
