Really, Deadman? Seriously? Try and read it back, yourself, and it's just a long spiel of random thoughts.

You may pick any combination of the above 5 options.

Re: Internet struggling to cope with MW3 Online

That is a slight improvement, but not as much as I hoped. I should have asked you to do this previously, but when the faceplate of the master socket is removed are all your other sockets without a dial tone? Can you also check your line for noise by plugging a corded phone into the the Test socket and dialling one digit. You should hear nothing except possibly a very faint hiss.

If all the above pass the tests, leave the router connected to the Test socket and phone Sky. Ask them if they can try your line on ADSL2+. They may say that it is already on that, but I can assure you it is not, so persist and ask to be passed to the higher echelon of support.

Do I just need to plug the phone into each socket, press the green/call button and listen for a tone?

I'm happy to do that, will undergo the tests in a hour or so. What's the difference between G.DMT and ADSL2+? And why would I be on the former if it's not as good? Are the benefits situation/user specific?

I've also attached a screenshot of a speed test, trying to highlight the spikes in speed I get. The test registers speeds of between 2-3Mbps for the most part, with 2 spikes at roughly 7.5Mbps. I always get this kind of result now but I think it measured smoothly in the past.

Is this a problem? Does it tell you anything?

Re: Internet struggling to cope with MW3 Online

      1. With the faceplate of the master socket removed, the remaining socket produced a dial tone when I connected the phone (which is normally connected to master socket)
      2. When the phone base unit was plugged into the test socket and I dialled one digit, I heard a faint hiss. But our phones are wireless and we don't have any old corded phones to test.

This means your extension is not properly connected to the Master socket. I would geuss that it is wired to a seperate junction box or directly to the main terminals in the Master socket. It should be connected to the master socket faceplate. If it is not it is going to effect your broadband. Can you check where it is connected to?
