Sky no longer offering Gamer Profile?

I called up Sky today to get my max delay to be reduced, (my ping before the call to bbc.co.uk was 33ms), after a fairly long conversation they said that they no longer offer the gamer profile? Has anyone else had this?

      Call again.

It is more often the case that you get someone who doesn't know what you are talking about or who doesn't have access to all the Broadband screen and all they can do is fob you off with rubbish.

There are several members on this forum who work for Sky and this is the first post I've seen where someone has been told that they do not offer the Gamer Profile in recent months.

dunno why all the people want to go on gamer profile...
I,m game with xbox360 a lot, and with my ping of 35-40, i can play without any lag, or without any disadvantage of gaming speed ect...
i just cant see what all the fuss is about this dam "gamer profile".
Unless you got stupidly high pings of 55+, i really cant see the problem

A lot of people want that little bit of an edge.

Faster pings can provide it in some cases.

Some of it may be psychological as well.

for the sake of 5-10 ms,(or whatever it is ) i hardly think your gonna have the edge .
Yeh you need good connection/ping but, you also need to be half decent at the game - if you suck at any game, your gonna blame it on "MY PING" LOL .Head over to the xbox forums and you;ll see what i mean

Re: Sky no longer offering Gamer Profile?

      I don't need to.

Some time back I managed to outplay someone on Populous and they terminated before I could get the points. It was one of my first games and their score indicated that they were a good player.

A lot of people take these things too seriously.

For ref, they'd gone in and smashed up my few remaining villagers which had been left behind & Sharman, whilst I went around the back of the hill, destroyed their village, and then whichever villagers were remaining couldn't regenerate. I was then able to wipe out all their villagers & his Sharman could not regenerate when he died.

Because I'd hidden a bunch of villagers, my villagers were still able to regenerate and the villagers were still being replaced.

      I can be evil.

As you say though, most of it is down to ability & reaction times. However reaction times aren't then only factor. Good tactics are a necessity in a lot of on-line games.

Re: Sky no longer offering Gamer Profile?

      It depends on the game
I have played online fps games since around 1997
      tribes for example

I had a very good phone line that connected at 52.0 kbit/s
and a very good chipset in my modem that resulted in me getting 85-100ms
to barrysworld/jolt/easynet game servers this was almost isdn like pings

and i did very well on them compared to my fellow tribes team mates who
had different modems for dialup and they got 170-200ms pings

then in 1999 i was first inline for 600kbps down 128kbps up cable broadband
with a 3com cmx cable modem

this dropped my ping to 28ms to said servers and made another huge difference

a few months later ntl made ubr upgrades which dropped my ping to 12-16ms

this was all before the days of deep packet inspection and such

and in a game like tribes a drop in ping makes a huge difference
one of our tribes clan members was on janet and got 8ms to all game servers
in the uk if we had a 1-1 he was very hard to beat
when he went home for the summer and was on adsl at 44ms
it was easy to beat him in a 1-1

anyway my point is it can make a huge difference

but these days games like call of duty black ops and such
have so called lag compenastion systems in them
that dont work very well and its luck of the draw if you will be able to get kills
even if you have a 8ms ping due to being punished by the games
and being a good few seconds behind laggy players

with black ops the beople with the worst connection usually get the biggest break

I feel your pain, my Pingtest is at a grade F at the moment. 180something MS and everything I enjoy playing is unplayable.
