      Keeps disconnecting

      Hi

Been with sky now for about 10 weeks and play on the PS3. The problem i am getting is about every 30 mins or so the internet disconnects for about 20 secs or just disconnects me from the PSN. It only happens when i am on the PS3 not on the laptop. The PS3 is connected though an enthernet cable and put into DMZ. If there is any information i need to provide just say and i will try and provide it.

I was looking on plus.net website and they have an add-on for 5 a month for gamers. Does sky do anything like that?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4736 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 26.5 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 20.0 db

Also i have this connectect to the phone line. Does anyone know what it is please

Thankyou very much for your time
      Ryan

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

Looking at your stats, I would say that you are not on Sky BB Unlimited, but rather Sky BB Connect.

The disconnection could be simply because your connection can't handle the bandwidth. Before you can actually be sure that it is disconnecting though, take a look again at the page where your gained the router stats from. The top three lines of figures show the connection time.

If your connection has been lost, then these will reflect that fact. If it is because the bandwidth is too slow, then you need to read this thread urgently:

      This piece is interesting.

Your ADSL line dropped & reset 13 1/2 hours before you took those stats. Were you playing an on-line game at this time?

If so, then you may wish to contact Sky.

Remember with Sky BB connect that you have a daily usage limit of 1.3Gb. If you go over this figure, then you risk getting drastically capped.

Personally I would encourage you to change ISP if you can't get Sky BB Home Lite or Sky BB Unlimited.

Take a look at SamKnows to see which ISPs have LLU equipment at your local telephone exchange. Then take a look at who is available and can offer you a good deal.

Its just an old style connector, it basically connects your house wire to the main cable. Open it up and see if the ring wire is connected, i am guessing it will be. On your side of it you only want the blue/white and white/blue wires connected.

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

Kona Owner has pointed out the internal junction box. Looking at the wiring, this could be an issue. Certainly with most modern phones you only need to have wires 2 & 5 connected now. The ring wire isn't required by many phones now.

Your line provider (i.e. who you pay the line rental to) is responsible for the wiring from the telephone exchange to the test socket (or master if you don't have an NTE5 socket). You are responsible for any extensions, ext.

Phooey! This limits your choice to either BT or a re-badged BT Wholesale product. BT BB Connect is the worst BTW product that I am aware of IMHO.

There are several nice companies in the link that I provided in my previous post. What I would suggest is for you to look at what you currently use your BB connection for and how you envisage things changing over the next few years.

For many people, a 40Gb monthly limit is more than sufficient. For others, their demand is considerably more.

I can't predict what your personally pattern is likely to be in a few months, let alone next year. Only you are best placed to guess at how this is going to be. If I were to say that 'Company A is the best choice' and things changed or their service to you was poor, then I would be seen to be at fault.

With all this in mind, I have to leave it for you to decide which firm best meets your needs.

One company I used to use had an FUP that a couple of friends found to be problematic. They DJ on an Internet Radio and their upload bandwidth was high. The FUP was changed and the soon found that they were being capped.

      FUP= Fair Usage Policy

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

There is no ring wire in a junction box of this type. If you disconnect the orange wire you will cut your phone off.
