Not sure this happens often - from 3mb to 7mb

      Morning all

Joined Sky in Dec after buying my first house, got the tv, phoneline and bband. I was estimated 2.5-3mb down by most providers and got the same results from doing online postcode tests. After the install I was getting around 3mb, all working fine and speeds I expected.

      3mths later . . .

I am now getting 7mb down

Nothing changed at my end with wiring, from looking on the kitz/sam knows nothing has changed at the exchange. At first I thought it was a mistake but I monitored the connection for a month and so far has been steady as a rock. My sky account states another line check was done in May and my speeds changed due to the results.

I've searched the net and never really came across anything like this.

Anybody know how the speed can increase so much?

I now want to try and lower my pings by asking for a gaming profile, do you think me doing this will/could effect the new download speeds?

Hope these speeds stay for good now

Without seeing before and after stats we can't really comment but that's a healthy increase!

Not got my before stats but will whack up my current stats later tonight.

What do you think about the gaming profile, could this mess up my download speed?

COD BLOPS would be a lot better with lower pings on the ps3
(now I can get back on the psn)

Interesting, the noise margin has gone beyond 6.9 that sky normally uses. That would explain the jump in speed might cause errors though but if it's stable i'd leave well enough alone lol

Downstream is good for the attenuation. SNR's slightly low, so you may find it'll drop and train in slightly lower.

You'll likely find your delays are already set to 8ms by DLM ('gamer profile' as some call it). Ping bbc from command prompt and check the roundtrip times.

Do you know if the router will tell me if the delay is set on 8ms?

The line has been at this for the last 5wks now so hoping these speeds are here to stay.

Not had any drop outs so far when gaming or browsing.

Be gutted if this is only temporary and the speeds reset

Unless you have the phase 1 netgear, which you won't unless you joined years ago, or the d-link, then you won't be able to see detailed stats.

Open command prompt and check your ping times to bbc.
