Keep getting disconnected while on live

Evening ladies and gentlemen. Acquired Sky in January and all has been cool other than with xboxlive. I'm using a wireless adapter on the back of my console which worked fine with my previous isp. However since joining sky It has been thowing me off line at random times (usually 30-60 mins from signing into live) However the last week it has got much worse and now I can't stay connected for more than a minute or sometimes I can't sign on at all. However all the pc/laptop connections would remain perfect at this time (even in the same room as the xbox)

To be frank I'm seconded to useless with interent connections and what to do but it appears their is many others with similar problems ? I'll post my 'stats' which I've seen mentioned in other threads and if anyone could offer me any advice it would be much appreciated

Your stats are fine, but you may have to change your wireless channel to get better reception. Try channel 13 for a start, if that does not help download Inssider from the link below and use it to discover the channels in use in your area. Set your channel to one as far from those in use as possible.

Have a look at these threads, re Xbox -

In practise most members tend to agree that playing on-line with Xbox, PS3 & Wii is better with a wired connection.

Since you got your Sky BB in January it is likely that you've a WiFi g router, they've only just recently released WiFi n (almost) routers and these are having a few teething problems.

As I see it you have a few choices:

      a. Use your old router by extracting your Sky BB login details from the Sky router
      - whilst this is against the T&Cs, many people do this without any problems

      b. purchase a pair of HomePlugs
      - these cost from 30-100 and use your electricity wiring to transmit your LAN from the router to another part of your home

      c. pair your old router to the Sky router and use it's WiFi signal
      - this can be accomplished by using just the short Ethernet cable supplied with the Sky router, a longer Ethernet cable or a pair of HomePlugs
      - How to connect two Routers together

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps

Where is the game server that you are connecting to?

Ping times usually increase when using wireless hence the reason it is not recommended.

Would also be a good idea to ping and tracert bbc.co.uk from command prompt.

      from your PC

      Go to start>programs/all programs>accessories>command prompt

ping bbc.co.uk(and then copy the result into a post)
tracert bbc.co.uk(and then copy the result into a post)

Might be just a case of getting your max delays set to 8ms

Appreciate the help guys. @Isitme, how do I go about changing the wireless channel ?

I've never had problems with wireless before I joined sky hence me thinking it's something to do with the settings or something.

      Anyway here are my results.

Open up your internet browser type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar

      username: admin
      password: sky

      both lower case

click on the setup tab in the top left hand corner

third option down is channel change to 13 - might be currently set to auto

scroll down to the bottom and click on apply

Where is the game server that you are connecting to?

Have you tried connecting to other game servers?

Does the issue only occur at peak times?

Re: Keep getting disconnected while on live

It's okay what I meant was the country of the server such as the uk.

The reason that I asked is because your ping times are likely to increase the further the distance to the server is. But since you get kicked out as soon as you sign it that rules out that idea.

Gaming wirelessly is never a good idea. If the router and xbox are in the same room a long Ethernet cable would be a good idea, alternatively Homeplugs.

Although never a great idea wireless is becoming more effected by the fact that more and more people are getting BB and therefore the likelihood of wireless interference becomes more and more common.

The reason that I asked you to preform the ping and tracert commands was to check on your ping times, and also to see if there was an issue on sky's end creating a high ping time.

      Who was your previous ISP?

Re: Keep getting disconnected while on live

thanks for the advice, the router is to far away from mytv/xbox so using an ethernet cable isn't really an option and after losing my job can't really afford to splash out on any alternatives.

Real shame especially as it was working when I was with virgin. Meh.

Virgin use N grade rourters. Works on 5Ghz frequency.

Sky use G grade routers. Works on 2.4Ghz frequency

      The superhub is terrible.

If you still have your virgin router. You could just piggyback them. See Scubbies link above
