      High Pings in Evenings

I seem to be getting high pings in the evenings when playing Counter Strike Source. It happenend last night from around 7pm until 11pm (Saturday), and it's just started happening so far today since 4pm. I emailed Sky yesterday explaining the problem, and this is the email I received back.

I have reconfigured your line this morning to just under 19mbps downstream speed, and have ensured your max delays are as low as possible.

SpeedNetwork Product: ADSL 2+ SMPF 24Mbps Down 1.3Mbps Up
      Downstream ( interleave )
      Trained In: 18970 kbps
      Configured: 18976 kbps
      Min Bit Rate: 128 kbps

      Upstream ( interleave )
      Trained In: 630 kbps
      Configured: 768 kbps
      Min Bit Rate: 128 kbps

      Max Delay: 8 ms

This is the best possible configuration we can acheive at this time.
I assume this is the "Tier 3" which is stickied in the Gaming forum. Does anyone else have this issue in the evenings? What else can I do?

      Re: High Pings in Evenings

Yea it would have been CST only takes about two seconds to make the change that they did.

there was an issue before with high pings affecting certain areas.

Unfortunatly sky don't offer the option of fastpath.

      Do you game wirelessly

Have you tried pinging anything else in case your game servers are having an issue?

Might not be a bad idea to try calling sky to see if you can get through to CST to check if your area is having issues with pings

I don't game wirelessly, I use an ethernet cable.

      I have pinged bbc.co.uk which averaged at 256ms, google.co.uk is 246ms, skyuser.co.uk 276ms. This is just now.

      Re: High Pings in Evenings

There was issues before though can't remember how long ago with high ping times in certain exchanges.

CST would be able to advise you of this issues was based on your location.

Pretty sure that Scubbie posted a great deal on the thread for the ping issues in exchange so maybe she can offer much more advise than me

      Everyone's picking on me

Seriously though, the only thing I can think of, only because we haven't heard of it being completed are the geographical issues that affected particular parts of the country.

The OP hasn't divulged the location where he is and you were doing such a good job, so I was keeping quiet.

      Re: High Pings in Evenings

Noticed when it work something that looked like a major exchange issue something about to many customers joining and parts not arriving not sure if its related but think that was the same issue when there was geographical ping issues at peak times before.

I wasn't fully looking at the outage as it wasn't relevant to me at the time.

Working tomorrow night so if you haven't got sorted by then will look and then post what i find out.

NOTE - wasn't picking on you Scubbie just remember reading the thread before i joined.

Sometimes you need to spot a joke,

Seriously though, if the OP could give us an indication where they are, then we can rule in or rule out that particular issue.

It wasn't so much ping times that were affected, it was the whole connection speed.
