      Performances issues & Xbox live

      Hi Folks

Can any one offer any advice with regards to gaming on Sky BB with Xbox live in particular. Been having pretty much constant issues particularly playing FPS's

Games appearing laggy, action freezing and just generally getting my backside handed to me by people before I've even had chance to aim my gun.

Checking the router stats errors seem to clock a bit occasionally but seems to go in fits and starts. Downstram SNR also on occasion dips below 7db but sorted that for the main. Sky support have been next to useless. Givin me a headache having to try and explain to them the difference between bandwidth and latency. All usual checks done, tested from the master socket, micro filter changed several times ect... even at one point got advised to change my wireless settings even though my xbox is hardwired in???

      Current stats of the rotuer:-

      Mode: ADSL2+
      Channel: Fast
      Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
      Line Status: No Defect
      Training Status: Showtime
      Down Up
      SNR (dB): 7.1 16.5
      Attn(dB): 39.5 24.1
      Pwr(dBm): 19.2 5.6
      Max(Kbps): 9668 945
      Rate (Kbps): 7852 605

Thanks for any help in advance

Re: Performances issues & Xbox live

While not good it the line is building errors as the packet loss could be the issue.

You may benefit from getting your max delays set to 8ms looks like they are set to 16ms atm

Have you tried connecting the router to the Test Socket

Although pingtest always says it can't measure my packet loss i have never noticed any lag.

they two symbol INP should take care of the forward errors

Quite a lot of people in tier 1 don't have much of a clue about high ping times

Re: Performances issues & Xbox live

It may benefit you to have your line taken off Fast and put on interleave, as it looks like your line cannot handle it. Try calling Sky and ask them to do this and at the same time set your Delay to 8.

Re: Performances issues & Xbox live

Done all that already with sky CS. Lost track of the number of conversations I've had with them. The max delays are already suppost to have been reduced to 8 and been put on the 'Gamer' profile. They also seemed to have adjusted my upstream rate as prior to my last conversation with them I was syncing @ about 0.9mb on the upstream and now only getting 0.6?

They've even had me adjust my wireless settings even though the x-box is wired in? when questioned all the agent could advise " adjusting your wireless settings can help communication with our(sky's) servers"? needless to say at that point i hung up before rolling about laughing

Re: Performances issues & Xbox live

According to your stats you are on Fast channel. Now Sky are not supposed to use this as it requires an almost perfect line to work properly, but it seems that in some case this is accidentally applied. As you are still showing errors with a good noise margin and a lower than normal sync speed this means you have a poor line. If you can convince someone on Sky to put your line on Interleave, no guarantee, but I think it will improve your connection.

As you are syncing below 8 Mb it may also help if your line mode was changed to G.DMT, although this should not be necessary on your line length. It is a case of getting someone on Sky to work with you to get the best from your line. This is not too easy.

As you point out the remarks about Wireless, show the calibre of the help you have received so far.

Re: Performances issues & Xbox live

Unless the FAST is a bug in Mel's notes.

If it is a bug then your delays are delay: "15.93 14.97" 16ms not 8

You might want to call and ask for a profile with

      Downstream 8000kbps
      Upstream 864kbps
      Delays 8/8
      Impulse Noise Protection 0 symbol
      Line Coding preferably G.DMT.

Also might need to check if you are on fastpath or not as it could be what is causing your lag due to packet loss.
