Sounds like your delays are maybe at 8ms, or perhaps 16ms. If you're suggesting that your ping spikes occasionally, then I'd advise to make sure the router is connected to the master socket, that all sockets have a filter connected as the first thing into the telephone socket, run no extension cables to the router, that if Sky tv is connected to any telephone socket to make sure the Sky tv splitter is connected after the filter and of course to run via ethernet cable as you're already doing.

If all of the above is fine, then how often do you have issues connecting to games, and when you mention issues connecting, what exactly do you mean? Do you download/stream/browse on any other devices whilst gaming at all?

It happens maybe one or twice a week, but I normally reboot the router and it works fine. My wife is normally browsing on the internet whilst I'm on the xbox as well but didn't think this would affect it too much.

I only have 1 extension from my telephone line and a sky engineer fitted this and it runs from a plug he fitted which has my telephone, sky box plugged into and is after the filter.

Doing anything on the connection whislt gaming can seriously stuff up your pings for gaming.
