Sky DG934g router keeps dropping connection

      Hey,

I've been on Sky Broadband for about a year or two (although I was on Virgin for about a 2 week period in January, parents decided the TV package wasn't for them). The connection has been fantastic, bar the last three months, and the speed has been decent - we are receiving 10Mbps at the moment on the 20Mbps package.

As I said, the last three months, the connection has been playing about. As I had extended summer break; I used to play quite a bit of Xbox to kill the free time I had. The Xbox used to run consistently for hours on the internet without dropping. And then, suddenly, problems have increased where I would be disconnected from almost everything on Xbox Live; except the service itself.

For example, I might be playing FIFA, and then it will just freeze and show a loading symbol. At this time, I would check the internet browser and it would not load anything. Then, I would get disconnected from Party Chat before getting disconnected from the servers. Then, it would all reconnect within a few seconds. The amount of games I've lost and time I've had trying to fix this problem has increased and increased because of this annoying little hitch. I know, a few seconds, doesn't sound bad but trying to play Clubs on FIFA or Search and Destroy on COD and getting disconnected from the game is getting bloody annoying now.

If you could help me sort out this problem, I would be incredibly grateful.

I am currently on a network bridge - so therefore it is wireless. I've had the same problem on ethernet as well; and I think the problem lies within the router. I know when it drops the connection, as the router stops blinking.

What lights go out on the router at the point of it dropping (if any)?

Lights don't go out - they just stop blinking (but they are still on).

That means the router is not dropping, but your devices connection with it is. Probably a wireless problem as already suggested. Have you tried changing the channel ? The Sky routers are set to Auto by default and this is not always the best choice. Try downloading Inssider from the link below and use it to discover the channels in use in your area. Choose a channel as far from those in use as possible. In addition, change the wireless Mode to 'g only' This way it is not wasting resources using 'b'.

Still having problems; keeps dropping more frequently if I don't use either channel 1 or 6.

Pretty much hasn't changed anything, sorry to be a bother.

Sorry to double post; but I put my router stats on whilst I was playing Call of Duty. I disconnected a few times in about 20 minutes (the disconnections started happening just after 5) and my connection speed went from 10,000kbps to zero. My upstream was also zero whilst my noise margin went to 2 million something - the random number.

      Hoping this helps.

That means you have excessive noise on your line. Can you post your stats from the Test socket and from your normal position?
