      Arrow Gaming Latency?

Hi Guys! I'm just about to sign up for Sky unlimited (LLU) and have a question or two

It would be incredibly helpful if as many of you as possible on the LLU product ping bbc.co.uk from a command prompt and paste the results here..

      Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

      C:\Users\Finguz>ping bbc.co.uk

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138] with 32 bytes of data:
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=120
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=120
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=120
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=120

      Ping statistics for 212.58.224.138:
      Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
      Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 18ms

      Like that ^.

Also could you tell me if the your latency/ping stays stable during the busy peak periods?

      Thanks!

I'm no longer with Sky but my result to bbc was around 32 with max delays reduced.

LLU has no 'peak periods' it's not shaped so it should be the same whatever (taking server load into account of course)

      Re: Gaming Latency?

      LOL!

OK, when i say peak periods I mean when it's busy. It doesn't matter whether it's LLU or not, it still get's busy at certain times during the day.

I mean when the service is busy. I have been on LLU for the past couple of years with Cable and Wireless and you can feel the difference at busy times...4-midnight'ish.

Another question that's just occured to me, are all IP's dynamic on the LLU service or can you opt for a Static IP?

      Re: Gaming Latency?

As said, Sky's LLU service doesn't have 'busy preiods' - C&W must traffic shape their service during peak hours. The only time it'd get busy is if the server you're connecting to is busy...and all IPs are dynamic, Sky don't offer static IPs

      Re: Gaming Latency?

      Sorry what?

Every network on the planet has busy periods! They are the periods when everyone is back from work and using their connections at the same time.

Cable and wireless don't shape, it is congestion because it's busy, because everyone is online.....

I'll see if anyone else replies with any pings as requested and then try another forum because I have never heard such nonsense in my life

In fact thanks, a static IP is essential for me so Sky is not suitable.

      Re: Gaming Latency?

Sky's LLU has more capacity than customers, so you get full speed 24/7/365. Ping times will not increase unless the server you're connecting to is experiencing overload. The Sky/Easynet network is one of the biggest in the country, if not THE biggest...I worked for Sky CST for 3 years and no one on LLU, with their max delays set to 8ms, reported bad latency. So to answer your question in your OP, yes pings stay the same during 'busy' periods

As for static IPs, look at o2 - their top package has a static IP as an extra
