Heads up to Steam users on Connect

It appears Sky are now blocking Steam from downloading, however both authentication and content servers are on the same IP block/port range so due to this you cannot log into Steam, or load any games without it being set to offline mode.

Probably not true. Whilst there may be blocks in place, it does not mean that it is Sky that are blocking it. Maybe Valve are blocking Sky Customers. Maybe its due to the IWF. Maybe there has been a change in their IP range that the DNS servers have not updated yet.

Dont jump to conclusions. It does nobody any good, and ends up getting people in trouble.

Why would Valve prevent customers from being able to access games they've played?

There's no reason that the IWF would blacklist Valve. And no change in the IP range.

many reasons. server problem, account problem, abuse issues with your current IP address

There are reasons why the IWF would blacklist Valve. Maybe one of the community pages contains content against the IWFs guidelines. Maybe a game description has been taken the wrong way. All those pages you view on Steam are just webpages designed for the Steam platform. They are subject to the same rules.

Why would Sky block access to Steam? If they block it for Connect, why can I still access it at 3 different locations, one of them Connect? Why would they do it just for connect, why not Unlimited or Everyday Lite?

Did you contact Valve? Did you contact Sky? or did you just come on here shouting about how Sky are blocking it.

How do you know that there hasn't been an IP range change on the Valve servers? Do you work for them? Have you been logging their IP range for the past several months?

I don't know what you have done, but from your original statement it would appear that you suddenly could not access Steam, and assumed its Skys fault.

Send an email to Sky, and contact Valve through their support page. Work between the two of them to find the problem. However, I can access Steam through a Connect service without issue, so its not Sky blocking it for the whole package, like you tried to claim.

Re: Heads up to Steam users on Connect

Because Sky's shaping/throttling of Connect is idiotic, they're meant to only shape/block P2P, and stuff like VOIP and Streaming. However they've implemented it terribly, thus everything gets shaped/throttled/packets dropped etc. (This has been confirmed by someone at Sky) I contacted Valve, they said it wasn't anything there end, and yes I could connect by tethering my mobile, and on <random> wifi connection.

You sound like a Sky employee to me, always the way, blame everyone but your own flawed traffic management system

Hi you know what the issues are. The connect package any gaming on the connect package is no good and never will be indefatigable has said how bad the connect package is. If you do not like the connect package move you have O2 / Be: LLU Enabled and TalkTalk (CPW): LLU Enabled. So why have you not left

It would be if Sky sorted out the traffic management, they have the bandwidth now so there's no reason for the shaping to still be in place to this extent.

They don't have the bandwidth and never will, even if they did, it would still not be a match for O2/Be LLU.

could be a DNS issue, have you tried openDNS?
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
