With Nildram (and yes it was interleaved) I could get pings below 20 (even occasionally below 10!) ever since my days on a half meg connection. I really don't play online games any more, but for even a semi-serious FPS gamer a ping above 40 on a high bandwidth connection is simply unacceptable.

      Keywords: high ping latency
There is no hope in hell you could get sub 20 pings interleaved with any ISP, I don't think whatever you used to measure that is accurate.

And boy does it make shafting fun, when i was on interleaved it was awful.

I also wish to know whether 45 ping is best we can hope for . . . Im no broadband genius but surely being 1.2 km away from my exchange with 15mb line should result in a better ping? Another thing, do Sky lines come with interleaving on? Thanks!

I just fired up my first gaming session after being connected earlier today and got nice, steady pings of 25ms when playing 'Day of Defeat: Source' - about the same as I was getting on a 10MB Telewest connection.

The days of being an LPB with single-digit pings are practically over, since there's so much more traffic on ADSL/Cable lines than there was back in late 1999 or early 2000.

Anyways, a low double-digit ping is a great thing when it's stable

I thought some people on this forum mentioned they were on Fastpath though

      mmm low pings

Anyone who thinks a ping of 40+ does not effect a fps game either is not a good player..or well no or, they are just bad players who dont know better

I'm with newnet till tomorrow then hopefully I'm with sky and with newnet interleave off I ping round 14/16 to most UK servers sometimes even below 10

as to sky having interleave on ...all ISP do you have to ask to have it turned off - I'm not sure if a) you cant have interleave off on LLU (which I doubt)
or b) Sky will not turn it off as it requires a little bit extra work (thats most likely the reason

Re: Is a ping of 40 odd really the best we can hope for?

1, in fps games a 20 ping is really good. 40 ping is good but i have noticed since going from 40 to 20 my accuracy has shot up.

2, Sky will put you on fast path (even on llu) im on max and got a very helpfull tier3 person to switch me from interleave to fast and i got my ms down to 19 constant.

3, if u dont notice a diffrence in play between 20 - 40 then u must either just very very bad as every player i know prefers a lower ping. and would love a 20ms ping.

      40? I wish.

      I have a ping time of 90+ to and CoD2 server ;(

Even pinging to the nearest easynet/sky DNS I get a similar ping. Really peeved about it as it basically means I can't play ANY online fps games at all now.

Is there nothing I can do? I'd be happy to "settle" for a 40-ish ping time.

ring sky tech support ask for tier3 and tell them u want to be put on fast path. They will do it but it will make ur connection less stable.
      Post ur line stats please.

Re: Is a ping of 40 odd really the best we can hope for?

I play BHD I ping uk servers at 15ms when I start playing in server pings vary from 80ms to abt 350ms.

Ping servers in the states at 120ms and they dont climb above 203ms and i only live 550m from my exchange
