Question Possibly returning to Sky ... has anyone noticed any improvements?

Basically I hopped from Sky to O2 with the threat of the dramatically reduced download allowance and the fear of being tied into the new network and having to pay to switch ... but that was then ...

So, how's the new network been for pings since the major upgrades? I used to have 60+ pings which dropped to 25+ pings on Sky once I sorted out the maxlevels ... but when I switched to O2 it dropped to 15+. (as a side note I used to have 9+ pings to the same server when I was a Multiplay DSL customer)

Obviously my concern is that if I switch back I'll be back to square one ... but ... maybe things have changed ...

      So my question is ...

"Did all the big changes actually improve anything for anyone ... or was it just business as usual?"

      Thanks in advance ...

If anything, the new SVBN system will increase ping times.

Is that based on personal experience, second hand reports, or technical understanding of the underlying systems?

From customers' lines I've seen in work, whether they be on an ISAM (svbn) or lucent stinger (non-svbn), the ping times are generally about the same once the delays are reduced. As long as the max delays are set to 8ms again, then your ping times should be close to what they were previously with sky.

Thank you, I was hoping to hear that there was an improvement, but maintaining the status quo is better than a kick in the teeth.

Pros of going back to Sky

      Anytime and Anytime+
      Saving 2.50 a month

Cons of going back to Sky

Pings will be going back up again

... can anyone else thing of anything else I should be taking into account?

Your speed might be slightly slower if DLM sets it wrong, but that can be fixed by calling up sky.

I am no expert gamer but does it really matter if your ping is 25ms vs 15ms
can you even notice such a small diffrence?

Some people can tell the difference, but I'd rather have a stable 40ms than an unstable 20ms

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138] with 32 bytes of data:

      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=121

I get that anytime of day rock solid. Also im still under dlm so havnt had maxdelay set yet not to my knowledge anyhow.
