      Hi the problem is the connect package it is a Bt re-badged max product and is traffic managed from 5pm till Midnight and all weekend the connect package is running out of capacity and Sky are not going to buy any more.
      tried playing a couple of games between 3-4pm and i have to say, although not completely lag free, it was a vast improvement. done a speed test again and there is a noticable difference in the results:

      i'm not very technically minded but looks to me like you've hit the nail on the head, that its solely the constraints of the connect package. unfortunately im usually online 5pm - midnight and the weekends so i guess that means no pro evo for me and i'm just gonna have to live with it!

      EDIT: i've also read that for decent pro evo play you need 2mb download

      Connect a computer to the router via ethernet cable

      start > all programs > accessories > command prompt

      (if you're on vista or 7, then right click command prompt and then run as administrator)

      when the cmd is open, type:

      ping bbc.co.uk

      check the approx. round trip time and that will give you your true ping times.
      minimum = 65ms
      maximum = 70ms
      Average = 67ms

      just done there a 5pm (ish)

      I think you would benefit by moving to a different ISP (if possible) Sky Connect isn't really that great for gaming on, If you go to samknows.com, you will be able to find out what ISP's are supplying broadband to your area, where I live I can get Sky (duh), AOL, BE and I forget the others.

      although being on connect is the big issue due to the peak time shenanigens just thought id mention that pro evo has never been great for online play in general, reguardless of how good your connection/ping is due to the poor network code they made for the game(i know from personal experience on the various games) but if you change your mind in the future and cant put up with connect anymore there are other isps that use the same product that connect uses but you dont suffer the same issues at peak time.

      if you do want to change give idnet or plusnet a try.

      I would highly go for virgin media, they are the next best thing on the list but I think I'm happy where I'am now right now since I switched to sky for financial reasons.
      Virgin I would assume would be the best ISP's good enough for gaming and simply more stable.

      Hmm no, Virgin isn't all that great. My friend who uses virgin says its horrible, he gets bad ping times and virgin refuses to lower them and his download speed is all messed up and he has had someone round to 'fix' the 'broken' optic wire (still made no difference) and when hes in a game on his xbox he experience's horrible lag.

      I don't want to come off sounding like a virgin hater because i'm not, I love stuff made by virgin but their broadband service happens to not be one of them.

      "over-capacity"

      You mean a lot of people on it? If so, then that's puzzling... I mean, should the same thing not happen to Max users then?

      Re: bad lag with pro evo (xbox 360)

      No because Sky Connect uses the BT equipment which they then have to buy space on for the Connect customers, the problem is that they do not buy enough space (capacity) because it is expensive so everyone has to share what little there is.

      The Sky LLU is their own equipment and they have plenty of space spare on that so no capacity issues and no need to throttle down the connections on it etc.

      Smithy, seriously, it's like talking to a brick wall attempting to explain ipstream vs. LLU to 'poorbroadband' - he dismisses fact and prefers to believe in theories.
