      xbox fps gaming

hi guys need some advice, thanks to help with my b/b issues i am now synching at a constant speed for 6 weeks now.
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15355 kbps 1118 kbps
Line Attenuation 30 db 15 db
Noise Margin 8 db 6 db

now in that time i have started playing xbox online (via homeplugs) mainly bad company 2, now the thing here is i can unload half a clip (at least) on a player and they can shoot me once and i die, i know i am not the best player but i know i am not the worst, so am i right in thinking it could be latency.
my ping results from my wirless laptop are:
Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138] with 32 bytes of data:
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=38ms TTL=121

      Ping statistics for 212.58.224.138:
      Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
      Minimum = 35ms, Maximum = 38ms, Average = 35ms
i believe these stats are pretty good but if i get my max delays reduced will that also reduce my b/b speed.
      thanks for any help

      Re: xbox fps gaming

hello mate i am a fellow 360 gamer, i also play bad company 2, halo 3 etc, that is a good ping result from bbc.co.uk

with some games its more to do with how good the servers are rather than your own personal ping, dont get me wrong ping is still extremely important but modern warfare 2 is a good example, the servers on there were making american players the host all the time so no matter how good your ping/connection was we would get the short end of the straw because of having to communicate with an american connection, EA who made the game have their own servers which run the online portion of the game and seem pretty good on the whole but not perfect.

your 35ms average ping from bbc is a good solid ping to game with, obviously the lower the ping the better, dont quote me on this but i believe that if you ask for the max delays to turn down you do sacrifice a bit of speed for it but that extra bit of lower ping gives you that extra edge on your opponent so i personally would, hopefully someone else with some experience and knowledge of max delays on sky can give some more input on this for ya.

Generally, that's correct. Lowering the max delays can have effects on error correction and lead to slow throughput due to excessive errors being generated.

OP - I'd maybe hazard a guess that your max delays are already at 8ms as your ping times are pretty typical of lower delay settings. You mentioned you had pinged bbc via wireless, so it's going to give you a possibly erroneous reading, whereas the homeplugs won't be effected by wireless transmission slowness/interference.

You can ring up sky on 08442410515 and confirm your max delays are at 8ms/8ms, but as a guess, I'd say they already are.

      Re: xbox fps gaming

Also dont forget that a lot of players on both the PS3 and Xbox services cheat using lag switches to make it less responsive to you shooting them but from their perspective they get easier kills. Not fair I know but a fact of life is cheaters will do anything to win, even when it is something as unimportant as a game. So it is another factor to consider. I for one know that MW2 and bad company both have a fair few cheats floating about on their servers

As for the hosting situation, I have tended to find I ended up being host with BeThere broadband and now being on Sky with a few games earlier today leaving to regroup with a bigger party as the games went by I tended to be the host too. So I wouldn't agree that it is always being connected across the pond, just tended to be based on their servers.

      Re: xbox fps gaming

Well, ever since MW2 has had all of these stupid problems I struggle to find any games at 50ms so it keeps skipping me up to 120ms which is really annoying because my ping isnt even that high and I know for a fact its MW2 because on Halo 3 and CoD 4 I find games instantly.

P.S can't wait for Halo: Reach beta

Its nothing to do with ping, the opposition is probably aiming for your head hence why you drop faster.
