In my case the Solwise 85 MB HomePlugs work fine for networking and connecting to the Internet but have some undefined problem with connecting to X-Box LIVE. Removing the adaptors and using a LAN cable works allows X-Box Live to function perfectly.

How about these then - Belkin Gigabit Powerline HD Adapter Twin Pack - Ebuyer definitely worth it if you have a gigabit router.

No need to run cables, simple and easy, no wireless interference.

      Re: New to Xbox live

Just plug in with a short ethernet lead directly from the x box to the homeplug, then the rest of the link is done using the internal mains wiring so no need for the 20+m of cable running round the house.

They are a superb soloution with very few pitfalls.

Now if I were to build a house, I would run in at least one ethernet point to every room but as that is not going to happen in the near future, homeplugs can easily achieve that for me with very little disruption, you can even get one with a wireless access point built in to extend a wireless connection into a blackspot of even to extend it into a garden or conservatory etc for a laptop.

They even have them with four ports built in so you can say connect an x-box, internet TV and PS2 and Wii all at the same time using only one mains outlet.

You make a statement like that and don't even know what they are or how they work.

      Re: New to Xbox live

It will not be better than ethernet, as it is really ethernet over power wires. It is better than wireless for gaming as wireless will add a minimum of 1-2 ms to the delay, plus it will usually be slower and less stable. There are some having problems with Solwise 85mbps plugs with Xbox live so it is probably better to avoid these if you decide to try them.
