Exclamation Getting Sky Connect - Xbox Live be ok??

      Hi everyone

I have just left home and moved in to my own place, immediately looked to get internet and things set up. For total package Sky have come out on top and I have booked installation

My only concern is I am a huge gamer on xbox, the only reason I have the console is for xbox live. The only service available in my area was Sky Connect - I have started reading around this forum and its making me feel a tad worried!

They are coming to install tv next week and then Connect in however many days

Has anyone got success stories with Connect? Should connection be ok?

Do I have 7 days or something to say I am not happy with the service??

If you work nights and only game during the day it should be fine.

Well thats the peak times when connect is throttled / traffic shaped.
Youve obviously had a look round at some of the posts and tbh if I was you I would be looking for an alternative. You do have an 8 day cooling off period from the time of connection.

      Thanks for your help

If I kept the Sky tv, sky talk and sky line rental and for example then went to plusnet for broadband, would sky line rental be ok or do I need to pay bt somehow for the line to work with plusnet broadband?

I wouldn't get Sky line rental, stick to BT, that's what they do best.

Have you checked to see if there is anu other LLU providers in your exchange?

Re: Getting Sky Connect - Xbox Live be ok??

for the love of god dont get sky connect mate! its an absolute worthless piece of ****e,unless you are nocturnal then it is ok in that case.

but seriously dont getit under any circumstances!

the plusnet pro is a good choice as it suits gamers to a tee wat with it prioritising good pings and all,im on idnet myself which are also awesome, 24/7 max speed.

and like smithy said let bt handle the line rental its their bread and butter.

Re: Getting Sky Connect - Xbox Live be ok??

Thanks for replies guys. I paid the 39 pound the other day for them to install the line for Sky Connect (before I read about bad connection after 5)

I have spoken to Sky over the phone and they have said only 2% of the country are affected, is this right? I can't help but think that if everyone on connect were affected, there would be a huge uproar online - I hope I am right! they also said I have 8 days I think it was to back out

Do you think I am safe to see how first few days go with it and then cancel or do I just cough up the 125 bt new line fee and find someone else. I have read online that Orange broadband is naff but I have been running xbox live and numerous pcs off of it since the Freeserve days, and it has been brill at my parents house

Re: Getting Sky Connect - Xbox Live be ok??

That is a total lie, I bet they won't put it in writing. Everyone on Sky Connect is affected, the problem is lack of capacity.

My advice, don't even bother trying it, it will not allow you to do any gaming during the peak hours, if at all. Get out now whislt you can.
