I had umpteen problems with Netgear Wireless N routers and my PS3 before switching to a Linksys last year. The problems were exactly as you describe and I also contacted Netgear at the time to see if there was an issue with the router. They confirmed that there was an issue with some of there N routers and the PS3 but offered no solution beyond that. I was getting horrendous ping times and download speeds with a couple of their routers both wired and wireless despite the cabled PC being fine.

So my solution was to get a router from a different manufacturer. I've since had a Linksys and a Buffalo (Both Wireless N) and neither displayed any issues other than the Buffalo overheating. I know this probably doesn't help you but my suggestion would be to contact sky and ask for the G router or try piggy backing another router onto the Sky one.

The DG385gt router is a G router, not an N. It would not matter anyway as the OP is using a wired connection, not wireless.

I was under the impression it was a G+ MIMO router. I also had the same problem over wired and wireless and my 60gb PS3. Still got the Netgear in question which is sat here gathering dust.

The PS3 built in tester has given me quite random results.
You can use other speedtesters ie speedtest.net and speed.io from the PS3 browser and see if they are more accurate.
