I may have given you a bid of incorrect info. Type 1 is only achievable if you are connected direct to a modem with a cable. Type 2 is when you are connected through a router with wireless or cable, so you are OK.

Re: PS3 DNS error-- How to solve it!

      hi folks

i'm new here, and have been having problems like everyone else it seems. i'm not a major techie, but know bits and bobs.

recently i could get online fine, then i couldn't sign into PSN (could only use the browser) i disabled and then enabled internet hoping it would work, but now its stops completely.

i have a wireless setup; if i scan for my network i get a strong signal strength, but everytime i try to connect it up and test the connection it times out and fails to get the IP address. The router is in the room next door too! argh!

      my ip address: 192.168.0.1
      subnet mask: 255.255.255
default router - i get stuck a bit stuck here, perhaps where i'm going wrong?! currently got 192.168.0.254
      Primary DNS: 208.6.222.222
      Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.220

I've had a good read of posts on here, trying different things, but i've had no luck. I've turned the router off and given it 5 minutes - no luck.

I'm miffed. To top it all, my 360 had trouble getting online before it broke - however my flatmates can get online with their 360's - it can't be the router then?

any helps anyone can offer would be appreciated

When you say My IP address, do you mean your consoles address? If so this is where you are going wrong, that is the routers address, for your console should have -

      IP address.....192.168.0.254
      Subnet........... 255.255.255.0
      Gateway .........192.168.0.1
      Primary DNS:..... 208.67.222.222
      Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.220

      Hi,

sorry, by my IP address i meant what i had entered into the PS3.

I've attempted to connect with the numbers you listed above - it failed again to obtain an IP address. timed out as usual.

Are you connecting by wireless or cable?

Re: PS3 DNS error-- How to solve it!

To rule out wireless problems you should find some way to connect by cable. If you have given it a fixed IP it should not be 'failing to obtain an IP address'. You are using a Sky router with Sky firmware?

A long cable is far better than wireless. The question about the router type was just to establish that the IP address was correct. Different routers have different IP addresses, but it should be correct for the one you have.

Re: PS3 DNS error-- How to solve it!

      try using this:

Buy 200Mbps Powerline Adaptor - Double Kit. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

I use this for my son's xbox upstairs, perfect signal, and much better than than trying to do things wireless, no nat issues either.

I thought about using long cables, but this solves all that by using the mains cables in your home, one plugs into the mains socket downstairs by your router, the other plugs into the mains socket upstairs by your console.
They come with all cables, and simply plug in, connect, and away you go.
