Max delays reduced still no better HELP!!!

I have had problems when trying to play games online (mainly battlefield's). After speaking to sky many times I got my max delays reduced to 8 but unfortunatly I have seen no improvement to my ping when I play games online which on a good day averages around 130-160ms. If I do a trace route to these servers I ping fine but as soon as I get on the game it goes loopy (jumpin from 110-500's) but averages on the above mentioned.

After speaking to sky again they said theres nothing more they can do and it must be that even though my house is less than 3km from the main network the wire could be a lot greater than this. Ive researched this and it is not so thats out of the window.

I have no problems with sky but the only use of the net I really have is online gaming, am I going to have to go to another provider or is there something i am doing wrong here....HELP!!!!!!

I dont know a great deal about computers and relevence of these stats but i asume that the stats here show i'm connecting to the server ok (this is a uk server aswell so the try a server closer to home advice isnt going to help).

There is nothing wrong with those pings.

If it is only in game then you may have your graphics detail set too high, this causes lag as the computer trys to show what is on screen.

I would look at your setup and then see if there is anything going on on the servers that wouls cause this.

There has been reported problems with the nVidea 8 series for a while now on MMO's with client instability etc.

Age of Conan and Warhammer Online was especially bad and my 7800 GTX performed better than newer cards.

It also looks like you are running Vista 32 bit as well which isn't my first choice for running games unless you have a high top end PC.

You try and get the latest drivers from nVidea and see if that helps as they are updated almost every fortnight and tend to have big speed improvements each time and drop your grahpic settings to minimum and see if that helps as the card you have got is now considered "old" by nVidea. (even if you don't)
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Agree that theres nothing wrong with the pings from the traceroute.
Battlefield has an old graphics engine so should run fine on the pc spec you have.
A couple of questions as you are on base which has a low upload :-
1 - Are there any other computers connected to the router that could be using bandwidth whilst you are playing.
2 - What virus program are you running as these can sometimes effect gaming
3 - You arnt doing any torrenting etc at the same time
4 - Please tell me you arnt wireless

Also if you could post router stats this may help.

Re: Max delays reduced still no better HELP!!!

Ive tried all possibilities graphics set at lowest setting, sound at lowest settings i'm literally clutching at straws now, I must add it is not just battlefield i have these problems all games online ping like hell.

This is the only computer in my house and it is connected to the only telephone jack in the house it isnt wireless and my anti virus is Super Antivirus free.

I've tried playing online with my firewall off, anti virus uninstalled and turned off everything possible on task manager without my computer shutting down... I'm stumped

Re: Max delays reduced still no better HELP!!!

Having a poor graphics card won't cause your ping to shoot through the roof.

As I've said before, it's traffic shaping.

Trace routes will be fine, but going ingame will give you a horrible experience.

I'm sitting on 8000ms+ in WoW for example at the moment with constant 30-60 second lag spikes, and it goes that way every single evening and has done for over 8 months pretty much. Any other game will mirror exactly the same behaviour.

UKOnline IPStream and Sky customers share the same horrible network.

Sky don't traffic shape LLU connections and as he is on Base that won't be the problem.
