      High(ish) Ping

Hey everyone, sorry to make another ping thread

But anyway, after running a speed test I am given these results:

Now I know a ping of 100 isn't the end of the world, but it looks like I can get a lot better result judging from other people's posts.

I've been seeing this LLU thing mentioned a fair bit, and according to a checker I used on the internet, my exchange is LLU enabled with Sky.

      Exchange - 01909

Presuming this is the case, is there anything I can do to improve the ping? I'm an avid gamer, and whilst I don't particularly have a bad connection, if I could get any better I'd jump at the chance.

      Cheers for any help.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, we're on the Sky Mid package.

I don't think 100 is actually all that bad. I always get anything between 70-100 on servers (although alot of servers i find go well beyond 200, which just won't work). If you think about it, it's merely 1/10th of a second.

      Re: High(ish) Ping

      Hi Mems,

I too don't think 100 is that bad, however my main gripe is with the speeds I get when online gaming.

For example, when playing a game like Call of Duty with friends, it quite often occurs that every person in the room, bar me, has the full 4 green connection bars, whereas I usually have only 3. It doesn't particularly make much of a bad impact (from what I can tell) but I just find it unusual that everyone gets a full connection rating except me.

Checking your ping with Speedtest.net is a waste of time. To get an accurate result run it from a Command Prompt to your game server or to bbc.co.uk.

Have you asked Sky to reduce your delay? See If you have poor pings on Sky Broadband

For a UK server you should aim between 50ms and 80ms, anything above is bad latency, with the connect package i suffered packet loss, and high latency, am now on a new ISP and ping between 60-70ms

      Simple SKY sucks for gaming!

      Re: High(ish) Ping

I don't call them a lot, in fact I didn't call them at all, I filled in the KANA form and request my max delays reduced to8 and they did it in three days.

Since then I haven't needed to contact them again regarding pings.

This is about 5-10ms more than when I was with Nildram which hosted Jolt.
