      WoW and Sky

      evening guys and gals.

Just wanted to ask here as I have read alot of other forums on this subject and have spoken to both Blizzard tech support and SkyBB and I seem to be going round in circles.

I currently have massive issues playing wow (world of warcraft to the uninitiated) due to my ping jumping from 50ms to 3kms and have done since november, I've also found that basic internet browsing has become alot slower, i'm on the sky connect package.

Now I have done all the basic things such as replace microfilters, wired into the test socket, using ethernet cable, no extensions etc etc but to no avail.

The trouble is whenever I carry out a speed test it shows i'm getting what sky say is a close on max speed for my package, however I am getting nearly 25% packet loss what I ping sites such as BBC or Google.

Carried out a pathping today on the wow server I connect to and the following line stood out a little and was wondering if this goes anyway to explaining the issue:

      3 --- 100/ 100 =100% 100/ 100 =100% 5acf002e.bb.sky.com [90.207.238.46]

Hop 3 and its 100% packet loss...

If you guys/gals have any ideas or have heard of this problem and a solution any help would be much appreciated.

      Thanks!

      Re: WoW and Sky

As you are on the "connect" package see

Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Basically Sky is seriously over capacity with this product and so have instigated a strict traffic management/bandwdth throttling policy from 5pm to midnight.

This is due to them not wishing to buy more "centrals" off BT and so are running the ones they have at maxed out capacity.

looks likes i'm gonna have to change ISP then as apparently connect is all we can get in this area through Sky.

      Re: WoW and Sky

Correct, for some on connect they have even had browsing and general web use crippled/

Considering WoW only uses 25 meg/hour it's not like it's a high bandwidth app.

      Re: WoW and Sky

sky have told me there is nothing wrong though... is there anything you know of that I/they can do to get this resolved or is it literally a case of switch providers?

      Re: WoW and Sky

As far as Sky is concerned there is nothing "wrong" this is all intentional.

I doubt Sky will fix this anytime soon, they are putting more and more people on the package at 17/month and are happily doing this.

      Re: WoW and Sky

5 months down the line and they're putting me on or giving me 'fast path'.

Spoke to someone in the escalations team who was very helpful and understood straight away what the issue was and explained the only thing they could do that may rectify the issue.

Customer relations (tier1) started off with "everything is working as it should sir, we think your only option is to consider swithing providers" I love that line.

Cheers for all the help, reading the threads on here made resolving this issue (hopefully) much easier.
