Unhappy How to change security encryption from WPA to WEP

I was wondering how to change my network's security settings from WPA to WEP, so that I could make use of my Nintendo DS.

I've been having problems with this earlier. I typed in my default gateway IP into the address bar, then I clicked on the Setup tab, and under "Security Options", I clicked "WEP". I could use my Nintedo DS's Wi-Fi signal, but the internet on my computer went, so I had to reset my router to return to my default settings.

Is there any way I can accomplish this and use the internet on my computer, or does it only work with one? If so, please provide a step-by-step guide on how to do this.

Have a read of this and see if it helps? Although written for the V1 router, principles are the same.

Re: How to change security encryption from WPA to WEP

If you are going to change the router to WEP you'll then need to set your computer to WEP as well.

I suggest you set up the router with the computer connected to it via an ethernet cable (rather than wireless).

There are good reasons for not changing to WEP from WPA but if you have no choice.....

Bear in mind that some wireless adapters are not 100% compatible with the passphrase translation used in routers -- so be prepared to apply the HEX code to your computer's wireless adapter's user interface, instead of the alphanumeric passphrase you've chosen.

Re: How to change security encryption from WPA to WEP

You could get the Nintendo WiFi dongle thing, plug that into your computer, & use that to wirelessly share your connection from the computer to the DS.

That way, you could leave the router set to WPA, rather than the rather old & crackable WEP.

[The Nintendo dongle uses Internet Connection Sharing over wireless to share the PC's 'net connection with the DS, & uses some proprietary Nintendo encryption method]

Re: How to change security encryption from WPA to WEP

I changed my access to a WEP connection. My Ds found the network and i types in all the codes but when trying to connect the signal bar was red and empty and an error with code 51300 came up.

What does this mean and how do i fix it =)

      thanx

if it would be better to change my connection back to a WPA, how and where do i get one of those connecter thingies for the Ds and how much will it cost??

signal bar was red and empty and an error with code 51300 came up.
This usually signifies a password error. Try entering the password manually without using the generator. Keep it simple so you don't make a mistake when entering it, something like 12345abcde would do. It must be 10 digits long. Remember to click apply. If you find it connects, you can then increase the strength.Choose 128 bit which requires twenty-six hexadecimal digits (any combination of 0-9, A-F).

If you have the newer DSi, it should support WPA so you should use this.

Re: How to change security encryption from WPA to WEP

I have a Ds lite, and a WPA connection (Which i changed to WEP to try connecting, but changed it back cos it didn't work).

The signal is fine on my pc, so it's not a weak router or anything.
If anything i think ill buy one of those WPA converter computer usb whatevers that let you get onto the internet with your Ds. How much are they and where could i buy one???
