      Ragnarok - Port forwarding

I have recently started using Sky Broadband and I play an online RPG called Ragnarok. I've been experiencing lag in the game, so I've consulted the game website to see if there's anything I can do to improve the connection. It mentions port forwarding, and I was wondering if this would actually be required and if it would make a difference.

The website says 'Please be sure to enable the following ports for each client:

      - For the patch client and web browser: 20, 21, 80, and 443 outbound
      - For the game clients (main and Sakray): 4500 and 6900 outbound

No inbound ports are required for Ragnarok Online to function correctly.'

Note: I'm not using the Windows XP firewall.

      Thanks.

You may be as well requesting that your Max_Delays are lowered to help with the lag if not already done so.

      Some background information is here:

Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

I am not too sure if you would need to open any ports, unless you are actually hosting the game.

      Re: Ragnarok - Port forwarding

Port Opening is done (on my Netgear) via Security - Firewall Rules. If you have something similar on your Sagem ......
      - For the patch client and web browser: 20, 21, 80, and 443 outbound
      - For the game clients (main and Sakray): 4500 and 6900 outbound
20 & 21 are FTP ports; 80 is HTTP Web Server and 443 is HTTPS and are all predefined.
You would need to add 4500 & 6900 via a user defined setting.

Having said all of that, it is normal to have to open inbound ports, not outbound! All outbound are open by default!

You need to phone Sky as above and ask for you max delays to be LOWERED. Say to them you are a gamer and need this implementing.
There is a free utility that automatically forwards ports here:

      Simple Port Forwarding v.2.0.4 | PcWinTech.com

      Hope this helps
