PS3 Media Streaming Problems

Hello Forum!

I am having some hassle with trying to get my ps3 to view files on my PC via a white netgear router. It worked in my old place (different router now, same make and model) yet it cuts out and takes a small eternity to load.

Does anyone have any reccomendations as to the best settings for the router to make it good? (channel, unPnp on/off etc)

Thanks for your help!

DX

Re: PS3 Media Streaming Problems

I have the same router, was having problems to start with but then I made the following changes, you will need to see which ones apply to you or might help
1. Turned UPNP on
2. Channel - on Auto 108 Mbps
3. I turned the wireless access control to on and put in the MAC address of PS3, you can find it in the network settings.
4. I removed Windows Vista as that was leading to repeatedly blocking access of files by PS3 and now using XP with WMP11.

Since these changes, it has worked like a charm and never had problems with any access problems with file sharing wirelessly to my PS3. These settings should be good if on the NAT test on PS3 it shows as Nat 2, if NAT 3 then you will need to port forward as well and turn off UPNP (friend of mine uses this setting)

If you want any specific information then post you set up details about the OS, DLNA server, mode of connection, if able to browse Internet on PS3 etc

Re: PS3 Media Streaming Problems

Ok did all that on the Router and still it won't play bloody video files (correct formats as before when it worked) what is this NAT, NAT 2 and NAT 3?

I'm running:
Xp service pack 3
If a DLNA server is what I think it is then mines windows media player 11
Connection is wireless
and I can browse internet on my ps3...

Thanks!

Re: PS3 Media Streaming Problems

Also if you are able to access Internet well and streaming of media files is the only issue then look into the settings of DLNA server (WMP11 in ur case) and any firewall settings.
The way to quickly check that is to chose the media sharing setting in WMP11 and PS3 will show as unknown device which should have access to all media in the settings. Then switch off your software firewall temporarily, run the network test on ps3 again and try streaming, if does then you need to allow full access to WMP11 as well as ps3 in your firewall to work fully. Also don't use more than one DLNA server at one time, some guys have reported streaming issues while using WMP11 along with Twonky media or TVersity.
Let me know if this works.

Re: PS3 Media Streaming Problems

have you got Windows Firewall on? is so turn it off, it will slow it right down and block access.
