A tad concerned with my Ping

I had Broadband mid activated on wednesday just gone logged onto my fav game UT99 to find I had a ping of 85 which is just wrong. I therfore found this website yesterday and made the 50min call to SKY to get my max delay set to 8 where I was told by a bloke "I have heard of this before ill put a note on the system and get it sorted".

1 hour later I have a voice text on my landline saying that my line had been sorted. Happy Days I think so I again log onto UT99 to again find my ping still at 85.

Am I asking to soon as they do say your connection will constantly be changing over the first few days. But it isnt going up or down just consistently at 85.

Re: A tad concerned with my Ping

you CANNOT trust Sky if you 'ask them to lower your Max Delays' without actually have them do it on the phone with you...

half the time, a ticket will get created for CST and an auto regrade will lower your speed and STILL not adjust delays...

best call back and wait to speak to CST and have them do it there and then so you know it's done...

Just ring tech support and ask to speak to a CST?

Thats right give them a quick call, I say quick I imagine it is quite busy at the mo.

You may have to say you have a slow connection to start with, as the 1st guys you speak to may not know about ping times.

Connection Speed 6560 kbps 96 kbps
I think your upload speed is more worrisome than your ping. This is about a quarter of what it should be, you should try to get this fixed first without bothering about ping. One of the previous posters, who are Sky CST, can probably guide you in this.

Re: A tad concerned with my Ping

Get your upload sorted, because that too can effect game pings. And as people have said, get on the phone to them and ask them to tweak it there and then.

      Ok pings. (24/05/08)

Re: A tad concerned with my Ping

All sorted now eventually got through to a CST who configured and tweaked the whole connection as well as sorting my max delays.

Now a very happy sky broadband customer
