      xbox 360 media sharing

I'm having trouble sharing media from my pc to my xbox. The two are connected directly through a ethernet cable and media sharing is switched on on my windows media player. The problem is while my pc recognises the 360, my 360 does not recognise the pc, it says no pc is connected. This is strange because my xbox still connects to xbox live. i have tried switching my firewall off but it does nothing. I'd be very grateful if someone could help

Hi, I'm a bit confused as to how you have everything connected here. Am I correct in assuming that your pc is connected to your router and then you run an ethernet cable from your pc to your xbox?

      Re: xbox 360 media sharing

Yes thats basically it, my router is connected to my pc and there is an ethernet cable connecting my router to the 360. I'm using widows service pack 2 and using Windows media player 11 to share the media, when i go on media sharing on windows media player it shows that the 360 is connected to the pc. However on the 360 it says 'no computers found' Here's what the tests show:

      Network Adpater: Wired
      IP Adress: Confirmed
      PC Selected: Failed

All the Xbox live tests show that there is no problem with the internet connection.

      Re: xbox 360 media sharing

So both devices (pc and xbox) are connected to your router? Not to each other I hope.
      If this is any help when I test my media connection I get;

      IP Address Confirmed
      PC Selected Connected
      PC Connection Failed

But if I then sign in to Live and go to the Media blade and choose music or videos my PC shows up?

If, however, I then choose a different source (Console for example), and press B to go back to the Media blade, I then choose video or music again and now have to press X (Change source) to be able to see my PC again.

Give that a go and see how you get on.

      Re: xbox 360 media sharing

Actually, i tried the steps about DRM shown at this website yesterday:
Xbox 360 / PC Media Sharing Issues-- Please help - Geeks to Go!
i tested my media sharing after following these steps, and it still didn't work, i tried the media sharing now however, and its WORKING

i don't know if its because of those DRM changes but its working now whereas it didn't before, i just hope it stays like this and doesn't go back to not working again.

Thanks for your help Lager Lout

      Re: xbox 360 media sharing

A lot of people have had trouble with it randomly working, so unfortunately no-one knows the real issue or the best way to gaurantee getting it working.
Glad you got it sorted though, at least you can stream all your videos and music now.

      Re: xbox 360 media sharing

      Same problem here.

XBox connected directly to the router, PC via wireless. PC detects Xbox and allows sharing to it, XBos just blabs "Pc Connect Failed". It should just work, but being computers + Microsoft it doesn't.

Found several sites with advice, many mention errors with the WMP Network Sharing Service and/or DRM issues. No errors with my service, it won't allow me to Upgrade or Reset my DRM so I can't verifiy if that is the problem, I have also tried forwarding Port 443 on the router to no avail. Just downloaded Orb which supposedly works where WMP11 falls down but that doesn't work either.

What a waste of 3 bloody hours.

      Re: xbox 360 media sharing

Firstly, don't bother with forwarding ports. It's not needed with a Netgear router as long as you have UPnP enabled, secondly, did you try (while WMP11 is running) selecting music from the media blede and then pressing X to choose a different source?
Finally, don't bother with Orb as it is a bandwidth hog, if you really want to try a different media server then give TVersity a go, plus there are loads of guides on the net for setting it up.
