Max delays on a shoddy line

      Hi all,

I posted a little while back about moving from Be to Sky (on Mid). It's done now, and I'm currently in Southwest London 'enjoying' 74ms to bbc.co.uk, vs 7ms before.

Obviously I'm gonna have to do something about this. Sadly, I only sync at about 3.4meg (vs 16before ), and have pretty rather high attenuation - in this sort of circumstance, are Sky generally reluctant to lower max delays?

Dunno if this DLM malarkey is happening with my line - anyone happen to know if it's having an effect on people who had previously had max delays lowered?

      Cheers

Re: Max delays on a shoddy line

dlm automatically sets ur line to adls2+ and both ur max delays to 8 if u specificaly request you can have ur line put on to fast path which will completly ignore max delays but u more than likely will get high crc count and error count as max delays is the time fec has to check for errors you then reduce tht time to 0 so fec does not kick in. doesnt sound like dlm is on ur line but u can call sky find out.
if u are on dlm wait till its over.
if its over, or not on the line
get cst to set ur max delays to 16 not 8 unless u attenuation is below 25 then u can go 8
a high attenuation can also be caused by a faulty router so have another router at hand if you think your attenuation is too high. u wont however be able to connect with the other router jus test if the attenuation differs also try ur test socket.
did u by any chance move house?

Post your stats, and we can have a look at the problem.

BTW If you ask for fastpath to be set, you will get told NOPE ! !

Yeah I should have mentioned that I moved house, there's no way I'd have switched from Be if that wasn't the case

Re: Max delays on a shoddy line

It's been changed now, from 75ms to BBC down to 27ms. Still not great but ok I guess. Download now at about 325k/sec instead of 375 so no major loss there.
