I bought the cable a few days ago, with the plugs already connected.

I'm getting the results from a Speed Test- I'm not sure how to get it from the router!?!?

I don't think my line has been through a regrade- yesterday morning all was great.... then after re-running the cable it's gotten a little worse.

Maybe I should call them again, but first I'll run a speed test from the router- could you tell me how I do that? lol... Thanks!

My ping has dropped to around 50 again which I'm happy about, but my speed is still a little slower than before (even though I know these test aren't really reliable)

Here's my stats from the router:

      WAN PPPoA- 3361645- 3332047- 0- 0- 0- 9:55:25
      LAN 3329410- 3391633- 0- 0- 0- 33:01:16
      WLAN 0- 0- 0- 0- 0- 33:00:54

Connection Speed: 7616 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation: 41.0 db 26.0 db
Noise Margin: 8.6 db 14.0 db

      Downstream
      Upstream

Is there anything you could tell me from these results?

      Thank you

Your stats show you are connected at around 7.5meg, but you will never achieve this speed so 6.5 - 7mb is what you should realistically expect.
You may be able to sync at a higher speed if your internal telephone wiring is improved, try connecting to the test socket and rebooting your router to see if speeds improve at all.

      Re: PS3 Online Gaming Connection

As it is, I am plugged into the master socket with an Ethernet cable running to the computer- so no internal telephone wiring being used. I shall try the test socket scenario later though (If I have one that is- the tech didn't install a usual BT socket, he installed a twin socket wired through Virgin Medias omni box- so on my wall I have a twin socket, one connected to BT and one connected up for Virgin should I ever return.... Basically he didn't run his own cable through the wall, he used Virgin Medias)

I was wondering more about the line attenuation and noise margins- are they within an acceptable range?

Your attenuation and noise figures are fine mate, they show that you don't live next door to the exchange but that you are not a million miles away either. Your speeds are fine for the figures you posted.

I always thought that in COD, the host was connected to the server and the 4 bars showed how strong your connection to the host was, maybe part of the reason people are having difficulty connecting to certain people?

The servers in COD are purely for matchmaking purposes, once they decide who will be the host (usually an american), that player's connection becomes the game server, which is why you frequently unload a clip into a guys chest only be killed by him a moment later with the killcam indicating that you never even shot him.
