what do you get when you ping the BBC now ?

(note your connection speed has increased, which would indicate a slight problem with your internal wiring, will have to wait and see the ping results to see if its connected to the ping)

Re: Sky Connect - able to reduce pings?

looks a lot better than before...

what to bear in mind is that speed could take up to 3 days to stablise so you can either leave it in the test socket (if you don't use your other sockets) or purchase a filtered faceplate from someone like ADSLNation...but then the 3 days will still be needed to get speed back to normal...

EDIT: just re-read it was from normal setup, try a ping in the test socket...might not show any difference straight away due to the 3 days line adjustment needed...

Ok now here is the same ping but with the Test socket:

Pinging BBC - Homepage [212.58.251.195] with 32 bytes of data:

      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=55ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=53ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=54ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=55ms TTL=121

      Ping statistics for 212.58.251.195:

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

      Not much change!

Re: Sky Connect - able to reduce pings?

there won't be - as i said you now need it to stay there for 3 days to adjust to the line rate change...

Re: Sky Connect - able to reduce pings?

Ok I will try and leave it there for a few days...in a bit of an annoying spot thats all!

Looking back to earlier posts, Dholdi posted that BT can available fastpath on connect - is it possible to get this done if it is needed and how good are the results usually?

Re: Sky Connect - able to reduce pings?

When I was on connect, with similar router stats to yourself, I was on fastpath. Pings to uk servers were low to mid 20's. I had other issues, which turned out to be traffic shaping, and from my correspondence with Sky I got the impression that they were reluctant to get BT to do anything due to Sky being charged by BT. Dont let this put you off trying tho.

Re: Sky Connect - able to reduce pings?

      Thanks for the reply Dholdi,

Ye I could do with getting my pings down to that level, want sub 30 ping really for quake. How should I go about getting fastpath enabled? Certain area to call and what are the key phrases terms i should use to pursuade the usually dumb-founded employess!

      Cheers, Jon
