10 day training before any adjustments?

      HI all!
Im so glad i stumbled across this excellent forum.

      So here's the story
I have just migrated from BT to SKY. everything went very smoothly, only took about 12 days to complete. Speed are great I was averaging 2-3mbs on BT with average 50-200k from the Web and 6-20k on p2p (all ports etc where forwarded!) Now im sync at 16mb and recieving about 14mb. best p2p speeds of 1.5mbs down! so all in all its great however. Online gaming is very different situation. My pings are not so good on Cod4,crysis etc.

So called sky lastnight after reading about having max delay adjusted. The first three replied gaming not supported..as soon as mentioned games. Then the systems went down . So i called back today and said "i called last night as was meant to transfered to tier3 to have my max delay adjused (white lies I know) she was about to transfer me but then said your still on your 10 day training period this is normal please call back. is teh case or is she not playing nice? Fair enough I have only been on 4 days and im probaly being impatience but my connection has been solid with no change in upload/download or ping even after resets

Im not sure how to get deatiled ouptut for the new sagem v2 router so here goes

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 65912 56552 0 571 261 0:12:24

Connection Speed 16379 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 21.5 db 9.9 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 16.5 db

      average pings for bbc.co.uk 42-55
      and jolt.co.uk 39-50

Thanks and sory for a lengthy first post!

If on Max or any service that is not Sky Connect there is no 10 day rule, there is currently a 3 day grace period we have been told by sky to advise customers of. Are you on Connect or a Sky Max/mid/ base package?
From your speed stats you are not on connect so the T1 was incorrect.

Re: 10 day training before any adjustments?

You have an excellent router sync - actually about a meg higher than Sky Max is usually set at. This makes me wonder (interleaving adds an overhead) if your interleave level has already been reduced. Your lowish pings suggest it may have been. On Sky LLU it doesn't take days for an interleave change to take effect, it is instantaneous.

Remember that interleaving is usually applied for a purpose. You have a very low attenuation (good) but your noise margin is only around the router default. This shows you have some line noise. If interleaving is set too low then a noisy line will give considerable problems. Sky should and normally do take this into consideration when setting a reduced interleave level.

Reading through your post I'm not entirely sure what your problem is

You have great sync, great download speeds and your pings are pretty low for Sky. Have I missed something?

Re: 10 day training before any adjustments?

I am on the max yes im about to call back
Edit missed your post there saturday, Your right im proably expected aliitle to much to be honest but the max delay adjustment doesnt help I guess i could look into fitting a new faceplate to reduce that line noise, agree?
i proably should have metion im seeing pings of 100-200 in game and speednest.net alwasy reports 100+

      Edit 2:
Well after a few calls And explaining the situaion I was connected to tier3. At first he said its not possible and why would I need this done. Soon as mentioned online gaming he said he could adjust the SNR rates put me on hold and told me the router reset and i performed soon ping tests im now
      BBC 29
      JOLT 31

I did some browsing for 5 mins or so and watched ther line for CRC errors he then said no problem on their end but if the speeds become erratic to call back and he would set the max delay to 16 so to be honest I still dunno if im on 8 as he said he would increase SNR rates?? but pings are down so all is good

Re: 10 day training before any adjustments?

increasing the SNR would lower the sync speed - in effect capping the line - so what does your line show now?

Re: 10 day training before any adjustments?

Hi can you ps help me out? Ive just read your post and i am having similar problems with cod4 multiplayer ie time outs and basically Crap FPS gaming and frequent dissconnection on line. I too have bad noise levels which can go as low as 2 and high as 8 'probably overhead bt line'. I have been on max for aprox 1 month now and its never changed. Would it be possible for me to get similar results as Glent? By the way below stats are with skys dg934 netgear router which is 12inches from test socket, ps is on cat5 cable and no bell wires are attatched. Thanks in adv

you've already got a lengthy thread going so why not just stick with it instead of posting in others - makes it hard to follow...
