Gamer Quality Survey
|
 |
Ok, firstly, this is a little survey/questionnaire I have just thought about doing to try and pinpoint the exact problems with high pings or bad quality gaming. If GAMERS could post up their following stats on this thread in a particular order, that would be great... STRICTLY FOR GAMERS! Or people who are interested in finding out the cause or how to maybe reduce pings! The more replies, the more precise the problem!
NEW QUESTIONS ADDED! THANKS TO PEOPLES REPLIES! ALSO, THANKS FOR STICKYING NEWSREADER!
1. Have you gotten through to Tier 3 to lower your Max Delay? Yes/No
2. What are your router stats? E.g Attenuation etc.
3. Roughly how far away are you from your local exchange? Km
4. Are you connected to your router using an extension cable? Yes/No
5. If it is directly connected to your phone line, how long is the phone cable? (Metres)
6. Do you know your average sync speed?
7. Are you connected wirelessly or wired?
8. Could everyone ping to the same 2 address' to find their pings? bbc.co.uk and jolt.co.uk
9. Exchange Location/Name
10. Sky Broadband Package
11. Average Ping on a UK 66 Tick Server? E.g. CS:S 30ms
This is to compare roughly, people with the same stats or equipment, to their gaming pings and quality. If people have any suggestions for more questions to try and pinpoint the problem, please add to it in your post! Thank You!

I also did a traceroute to those servers and the pings both shot up when the hop left the easynet network, and the jolt one was particulary bad when the traffic had to go thorugh the pipex servers to get to it. (I assume that pipex is Jolt's ISP.) Could be why pipex users had such very low latency and pings to them as they didn't have to leave the pipex servers.

Re: Gamer Quality Survey

You should add average pings IN GAMES to uk servers. As this will say if people have ping problems or not as actually playing a game and pinging a website has alot of differences. Anyways i have no problems.
1. No i have fastpath according to stats.
2. 31db atenuation 9.8 snr
3. 1.2km
4. Yes 5 metre
5. 6 metres
6. 13660 kpbs
7. wired
8. bbc.co.uk 28ms / jolt.co.uk 29ms
9. Derby / Peartree
10. Average ping in games EXAMPLE : CS:s 22ms = / BF2142 = 24ms
