Talking Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

Thanks for this advice, eventually got through to T3 and they dropped my Max Delay down for me. This has dropped my ping on a CSS server from around 100 down to about 25/30 which is what it was before I switched from Pipex.

      thanks again
      Simon

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

Just dropped Tech Support an email asking them to reduce my Max Delay too now - Glad to hear that there is a solution to the high latency problem... it's been bugging my happiness since I swapped over to Sky in February this year!!

Been getting pings anywhere between 70 and 200ms, which pretty much kills any chance of online gaming.

Will let you know how I get on, fingers crossed...

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

Nice thread. Been suffering from pings that are more than double what they were on Tiscali (and I thought Tiscali was bad...) since I joined in July. Emailed tech support ages ago but I got the usual stuff about browser cache etc. However armed with this new info I re-emailed tech support this morning to see if they could reduce the max delay. Here's hoping

yeah, Sky BB Tech are over a week behind on the emails, around 2000 still to be done.

the funny thing is, The email teams were managing to keep the numbers down (it was over 5000 a few weeks ago) but then all of a sudden the numbers increased

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

I'm happy to wait and see what happens - You tech support guys must be inundated with requests to change this setting now I bet.

I do miss online gaming though and I'm actually holding off on buying either a Wii or a 360 until the setting is hopefully adjusted. If they can't though, I'll prob start shopping around for a new BB supplier rather than get my knickers in a twist over it. I actually had not bad pings with Tiscali before I switched over in late Feb to Sky - certainly not 200ms anyway!

I actually raised a ticket over the phone about it with Tier 1 about 3 months about it, but it was a toil trying to explain it to the poor Malaysian person (Or whereever they were) and no-one ever called me back. After taking 4 months to fix my first problem at my exchange, I couldn't be bothered going through it all again and just put it behind me.

      Hopefully this time though...

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

Thanks to all that contributed and obviously indefatigable. Called at 2am, explained slow BB and timeouts and Max Delays.

T3 changed it to 8, all done in 10 mins or less.

      (dan Elwells BB test)
      Was 108 ping
      Now 34 ping.

Thank you guys, thought my gaming days were numbered.

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

btw sky do not support business or gaming on line, ppl fone up and say they want T3 to reduce their ping from 32 -> 8 and they have to be told to go away and actualy figure out wat they r trying to say. the fact tht it takes Xms to ping 1 website an Yms another means absoultly nothing to u as ms is milli sec 1/1000 of a second. ping of anything over 200 makes a noticeable difference but ping of anything less is jus not woth complaing about.
