I called during the day and evening. Perhaps I should try around 11-12 in the evening next time. However, since I now have posted an online form, I guess I best wait a day or two before ringing again, incase the person who sees the form gets confused and does the setting change again, when it may have been done over the phone.

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

I called them about 30 minutes ago, three times before I got through to a nice person at Tier 1 in Belfast, didn't quibble about this slow connection troubleshooting stuff first, went away to ask about it (to Tier 3), came back and did a ticket (lots of typing), 3 minutes later talking to Tier 3 and wala, but I was told I couldn't have a max delay of 8, only 16 as my line could become unstable at 8, but it's better than nothing, so hooray! It certainly pays off when you get to someone in the UK.

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

called them up 15 mins ago was talking to tier 1 first

basically told them im a gamer and i want to know if i could change max_delay from 32 to 8 he knew what i was talking about as he was going along with me and told me to answer few secuirty details and told me to hold on the line i wated 5 mins then i was put to tier 3 friendly chap i told him if he could change max delay to 8

he said " you a gamer then aye"

i replied yes sir his reply " ive done this 15 times today "

" this must be ona forum some were" and we both laffed it off and i said most likeley yes

so he did some tests and so on sorted my line too and now i get 36 ms on bbc.co.uk before i rang them i got 66ms and in games ( CSS i had 60+ now 34ms on uk servers and 40/50 on european

      so all in all great!

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

I sent sky an email through the form on their website around 10 days ago explaining that I had really high latencies and wanted the max delay changing on my line to 8ms. They sent a reply today:

      Dear Mr,

Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband Technical Support.

I have contacted our Tier 3 departmen t and they have adjusted your Max Delay to 8ms, I ask that you monito r your connection.

I trust this helps however should yo u continue to experience technical difficulties, please reply to this email or call us on 08705 515 515. Lines are open 24 hours a day.

      Kind regards

Yes, they should have a direct online form for this change on the SKY broadband website for a quicker turn around.

I had the same problem, went through similar issues with Tier 1 and ended up wasting 45 minutes eventually a few days later a guy phoned me and said he'd made the change and my pings dropped from 80ms to 50ms, to exactly what I had on Pipex before I moved over.

If they had a simple form for the latency fix I reckon it could save them and their customers hours upon hours of issues with Gamers.

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

I finally got a callback from Tier 3 today (after ringing Tier 1 at about 2AM so I didn't have to queue). I asked about Max Delay and he said he didn't know if it would make any difference, but he changed it for me and my pings (to the UK and Europe, at least) are half of what they were. They're just as crap as previously to the US, though, so my Xbox Live experience hasn't improved much.

My upspeed doubled too (previously, I was only getting 40kbps, when I know you can get 80kb out of sky).

      Re: Low Pings WITHOUT Fastpath!!!

I would try it however I don't want them to cap my speed in any which way.

My current ping for BBC is

Does changing that effect speed of broadband in any way?

      Regards
